Sarah's brother was a doctor for the South during the Civil War. Charles McCullough, a saloon keeper in Philadelphia, was godfather to Sarah's first son, James. Charles lived with his brother John and his family in Philadelphia in 1910. The relationship between these two brothers and Sarah is unknown.

Family members in the US and Northern Ireland believe Patrick and Sarah came to the US independent of each other and met and married in Philadelphia, PA. Their first four children were born at 1344 Pearl St., Philadelphia, and baptized at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 1131 Spring Garden St., Philadelphia. They returned to Patrick's farmland in Turrytown, County Armagh, Northern Ireland, in 1895 when daughter Lizzie was 3 months old. Three more children were born there.

Patrick married Catherine soon after Sarah's death. His daughter Rose was so upset with the news of the marriage that she stood on the kitchen table and smashed the dishes to the ground. Years later, his son Owen refused to have Catherine attend his wedding. Owen's gravestone includes his parents but not Catherine.

The three oldest children returned to the US as young adults. Jim came first, around 1907, followed by Rose and Jim. Jim met them at the ship and said Joe looked like a hunchback. He had a tablecloth hidden under his coat so he wouldn't have to declare it.

Jim was born in Philadelphia, PA. He moved with his family to Northern Ireland in 1895, age 8; returned to the US soon after 1907, living in the Philadelphia area.

Jim is 23, single, works as a bartender, and is a boarder in the home John (also a bartender) and Catherine McCullough, both age 53, both born in Ireland. Also living there are John and Catherine's children, John (age 18) and Catherine (age 16), and John's brother, Charles McCullough, who is Jim's godfather. Charles is 61, single, born in Ireland, and is a saloon keeper.

Jim wrote and performed Irish music, recorded 78's as The Singing Insurance Man and as High Chief Ranger for the USA Irish National Foresters. He also recorded with The Four Provinces Orchestra.

The Four Provinces Orchestra: "The first of many great Philadelphia Irish dancehall bands. Led by pianist Ed Lee [Edward Leroy Freeman] who was born in London of Irish parents in 1889 and moved to Philadelphia in 1916 one step ahead of being imprisoned as a Sinn Fein organiser. His skill as an agitator found a different use when he founded the Irish Musicians' Union in Philadelphia in 1918. The 'orchestra' featured a strong fiddle section including John McGettigan, John McCormack and/or John Kennedy, plus Sam Moore (accordion), Jimmy McDade (banjo) and Thomas Jacob (piccolo). The 'orchestra' also occasionally featured the great James J. Mullan on vocals.

"Little is known of Mr. Mullan other than that he worked as an insurance salesman and was known as 'the singing insurance man'. He occasionally sang with the Four Provinces Orchestra with whom he recorded Arrah, Come In Out Of The Rain, Barney McShane. As you can hear, he sounds like quite a character and obviously sang with his tongue firmly planted in his cheek."

Rose was born in Philadelphia, PA. She moved with her family to Northern Ireland in 1895, age 6; quit school at age 8; returned to the US soon after 1907 with her brother Joe. She first lived in the Philadelphia area and moved to Downingtown around 1912. She attempted to join the convent but was denied because she was too frail.

Jim was born in Philadelphia, PA. The family moved to Caln Township, Chester County, PA, between 1900 and 1910, then moved to 230 Highland Ave., Downingtown, PA.

Jim and Rose first rented 214 Highland Ave., then purchased 231 Highland Ave. around 1923.

Jim joined the Moose on March 22, 1920, was elected secretary continuously for 23 years from 1938 until his resignation in 1967.

The family bible in Northern Ireland, a 1955 reissue of his birth certificate, church baptism records, and WWII draft registration card say Joe was born 9-8-1891. Social Security record says 9-6-1891. Lillian's Social Security record says she was born March 26, 1892.

Joe was born in Philadelphia, PA. He moved with his family to Northern Ireland in 1895, age 4. He returned to the US soon after 1907 with sister Rose, living in the Philadelphia area.

No one agrees on when or why Joe changed the spelling of his last name, but it was common at the time for people to accept a misspelling of their name on an official document.

Per 1920 census: Joe and Lillian own 4365 Newkirk St., Philadelphia, PA. Also at that address is daughter Imelda, son Joseph P., and Lillian's sister, Imelda Sullivan.

Joe's WWII registration card, 1942, states he owns a business at 400 43rd St., Philadelphia, and lives at 1845 Windsor Park Lane, Upper Darby, PA.

Per daughter Lil: Joe owned a grocery store in West Philadelphia. She said she lived in Willow Grove, North Philly, West Philly, Lansdowne, Upper Darby, and Manoa, all in PA.

Per granddaughter Julie Mullen: Joe was a technician for Boling Locomotives in North Philadelphia, then manager for A&P supermarkets. They moved to Willow Grove, and Joe opened a deli at 43rd and Pine. Then they moved to Westgate Hills in Manoa, and Joe eventually opened a second deli at 52nd and Walnut. Joe and Lillian moved to Miami in 1953.

Joe's sister Lil married Ed Daly while Joe was in the service and away from home. Joe had never met him so when Joe returned home, he decided to visit Lil and Ed in Long Island. He asked Lil if she had a girlfriend who would share the ride with him, and Lil suggested Dot. Joe and Dot were engaged a month later and married a few months after that.
