CoffeePainting1992.jpg

This above piece from early 1992 is one of my coffee paintings. Broke, out of color paint, I used acrylic emulsion, what was left of my brown and black paint, a splinter of a charcoal stick, my used coffee grounds, and my mug of coffee.

I stopped drinking out of the large mug as I started mixing the paint and coffee in it. Yes, I left the mug on the canvas surface to leave its ring more than once while I was working.

I had used coffee in acrylic emulsions a couple of months earlier, such as in this 1991 piece done on recycled drop cloth. The drop cloth is composed of two different pieces of treated cotton duck, a line of thick industrial stitching holds it together. What I saved in canvas cost I must have put into charcoal sticks and other minor supplies.

10:10
Size: 36 x 64 inches

I started stretching newly coffee stained canvas on brackets for mounting one of my floor paintings. 10:10 was one of the smaller pieces from 1991, and it was painted on the roughest, most frayed / uneven pieces of remainder canvas. (That is exactly why I love it.)

I believe 10:10 pm was the time of completion. On the back I have the exact date written in pencil: November 19th 1991.
