Information on The EULER Club
EULER began in August 2005 with a First Lego League (FLL) team, The Ocean Robotics Aquatic Team (Ocean RATs) and the Junior First Lego League (JFLL) team, The Glowing Lego Fish. The 2006 season just began this September and we are working on the Nanotechnology challenges with coaches Matthew Cioffi and Steve Brady. The FLL team will be using the new Lego NXT robotics kit this year and doing programming in RoboLab 2.9.
We have the same 4 students as last year on the FLL team and we have 4 members on the JFLL team, with one new addition. Also this year Kristi will be starting up a younger 6-7 year old JFLL team and it sounds like we may have one or two other JFLL groups forming this year.
The primary focus of this web site is to present some of what we have learned from participating in the FLL, JFLL, and Robofest as well as share helpful information and links related to programming the Lego NXT/RCX, and construction techniques for Legos. From a teaching and learning perspective, the Coaches Corner will provide links to documents created for helping kids learn about robotics using Legos and the Lego NXTRCX. The primary programming languages covered will be the Mindstorm's Robotics Invention System (RIS) 2.0 and RoboLab 2.9.
The group was formed based on the ideas presented on the FIRST web site, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST). First is the sponsoring organization of the First Lego League (FLL) competitions. The goals of FIRST includes designing accessible, innovative programs that build self-confidence, knowledge and life skills while motivating young people to pursue opportunities in science, technology and engineering. The FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is considered the "little league" of the FIRST Robotics Competition, is the result of a partnership between FIRST and The LEGO Company. FLL extends the FIRST concept of inspiring and celebrating science and technology to children aged 9 through 14, using real-world context and hands-on experimentation.
