Non-solid colored poodles have been showing in performance venues in the AKC many years prior to their
acceptance in the United Kennel Club on September, 2003. The United Kennel Club broke
with tradition by permitting poodles with non-solid colors (at the skin) into their registry for Conformation. The UKC
calls this group "Multi-Colored" and it encompasses just about every variation of coat colors know to poodles.
This decision by the UKC has already had a profound effect on the breeding of these poodles. While a
few dedicated breeders were dealing with improving the breed prior to this, the UKC decision opened up an the influx of new
people into the breeding of "Multi-Colored" poodles that has been huge.
We are suddenly deluged with websites who boast of their finished UKC Champions and Grand Champions, but very
few actually say anything about the accomplishments of these poodles in the performance venues.
It was because of this that I decided to take on the responsibility of tracking and recording how
these poodles were doing as performance poodles.
Well before the UKC decision and the current trend in popularity of non-solid colored poodles, there were
people who came across them and felt they were worthwhile. These people appreciated the fact that these dogs were
poodles first and foremost, and the coloring was a secondary factor.
Many of the people were subjected to some prejudice and ridicule, but perservered and exhibited these dogs
to titles in performance venues.
It is that group of people that this database is dedicated to.
For purposes of this database, I have referred to these poodles as "parti-colors" and have chosen to include
poodles known as "abstracts" from the UKC definition, otherwise known as "mismarks", as a separate listing.
This is based purely upon a personal experience that the mismarked poodles have, in general, had a much better acceptance
by the poodle world than that received by the traditionally colored parti- poodle. I have had one of each,
along with the solids, and found no difference between how my solids and my mismark were received; whereas showing a parti
has been a different experience.
The search for these special poodles, of all varieties, has led me to many interesting people - and all of
these parti-colored poodles have touched the hearts of their owners to great depths.
I would like to express my appreciation to those who have shared information with me about these poodles for
their help and interest.
I you you will enjoy browsing through the database and the photos.
