Adding 1' to the second floor height allowed us to add transom windows above the doors

Guests who want a sunny bedroom take the front one, with a bay window and southern exposure.

Those who prefer more privacy take the middle one.

Changes to Second Floor Plans:

The walk-in attic became a full-height master suite. We added a pair of small closets on either side of a window seat. Otherwise it duplicates the first floor suite, except with bay windows.

Because the added master suite is at rear, the massing of the house, when viewed from the street, is not seriously affected.

In the 2nd floor master bathroom, as in the 1st floor bathroom below it, the walls and ceiling are adjusted to fit the space around a kitchen buffet, modified for use as a double-sink vanity.

We reorganized the middle bathroom  to center the window in the gable (the plan showed it othewise.  Two windows are added to the front bedroom. Both of these changes improve the side elevation view, which is quite visible from the street.

The plan showed a walk-in attic at rear of the 2nd floor.

Instead, we duplicated the 1st floor master bedroom-bathroom suite, but with a bay window--to capture the expansive views (rare in the tiny, close-knit town).

We also added closets and a window seat.
