The Iguazu Falls are on the Iguazu River at the border of the Brazilian state of Paraná and the Argentine province of Misiones. They consist of about 270 falls along a little more than 1-1/2 miles. Some of the individual falls are up to 269 feet in height, though the majority are about 210 feet. The Garganta del Diablo or Devil's Throat, a U-shaped set of falls down a 490 foot wide by 2300 foot long cliff, is the most impressive of all, and marks the border between Argentina and Brazil.

Upon seeing Iguazu, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt reportedly exclaimed "Poor Niagara!"

Vastly larger than Niagara Falls, Iguazu is rivalled only by South Africa's Victoria Falls in height by about 30 feet—though Iguazu falls are wider.
