Due to our narrow lot, we sliced off the extension of the plan at left on the first floor.

We also changed the ceiling height:

  • 1st floor ceiling height changed from 9' to 10'. The extra height allowed us to add drop headers between both the living and foyer and living and dining areas. The layering of space adds scale and character.
  • 2nd floor changed from 8' to 9'. The extra height allowed us to include transoms above the doors, bringing in extra light, and adding character through a traditional architectural flourish.

Transforming the plan 

No "off the shelf" plan can be effective without some changes to adapt it to the site.  Rough schematics of changes we made are shown below, beside the original plan drawings.
