| Our first Christmas - 2004 |

|
| View toward foyer from living room; kitchen is to right |
Why so much distressed furniture? No worry about spills or scratches. A little wear and tear simply "adds character" to the already distressed pieces over time.

|
| Foyer view toward den w/french doors at rear; drafting room near left; powder room far left |

|
| Den toward side. Den was to be first floor master bedroom in original plan. |

Changes to First Floor Plans:
The kitchen is opened fully to the living room.
Because the home is just 2' from the curb (aligning with other
houses on the block), the front steps are recessed into the porch, under the porch roof.
Our goal: Display some of the simple
craftmanship that might be seen in a true "farmhouse victorian." The interior window frames were
copied from a farmhouse in nearby Milton--but proportions are larger, due to our higher ceilings and larger rooms.
The floors are 5" maple plank. The newel posts at the stairs were built from maple left over from the stairs
themselves. The crown molding is chunky (8" on the first floor), in accordance with the high ceilings, but
is not overly refined.
Reinforcing the fact that we are near
the shore, the wall colors are mostly pale sea green or sky blue. There are
few window treatments--we're there for the sun.
