Attached is the job description check-list the Technology Coordinator Committee has compiled for the new position at Sparta Middle School.  Any applicants for the job should be life-long learners, as technology is an ever-changing world.  Candidates should have a degree in education as well as a degree in technology education.  They should also be prepared to give technical assistance, coordinate and implement staff development within the technology realm, and coordinate curriculum units infused with technology for the regular classroom teacher.  We are looking for a candidate who believes in “teachnology” not only technology.

Qualifications:

§         Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education with certification.

§         Minimum of a master’s or bachelor’s degree in technology education.

§         Has 5 years of classroom experience in middle school

§         Demonstrates knowledge of current and emerging technology.

§         Has experience in coordinating staff development in the technology field.

 

 

 

Management Responsibilities:

§         Implements, maintains, evaluates and revises technology plan each year.

§         Work with principals, department heads, teachers, and others who will help implement the district technology plan.

§         Remain technically competent. Continue to grow as a professional technology educator and as an educational leader.

 

 

 

Community Relations:

§         Work on community relations by speaking to parent and professional groups, publicizing the district technology plan and progress.

§         Encourage schools to have technology-oriented open houses for parents, with students and teachers demonstrating various uses of technologies in the classroom.

§         Work with community education programs to assist community members and parents in use of computers and other technologies.

 

 

 

Job Responsibilities:

§         Assist teachers in the ongoing development of technology skills, implementation of new software and hardware, and provide services that coincide with district and state technology plans.

§         Meet with each teacher once a month to develop and infuse technology into a curriculum unit in his or her discipline.

§          Develop a district technology resource center to be used by middle school level technology leaders, teachers, and students. The resource center may contain hardware, software, and instructional support materials such as books, periodicals and journals, films, and videotapes.

§         Provide technology assistance one period per day to staff and administrators for technical assistance on computer programs, hardware and network problems.

§         Seek out and evaluate new software programs for all disciplines.

§         Assist in the training of assistive technology to faculty and students (to whom AT is deemed necessary).

§         Development and implement staff development in technology two times per year.

§         Develop and maintain a schedule for computer lab use by regular education classroom teachers.

§         Assist teachers in teaching technology to students in the lab.

§         Effectively model new technology and hardware for faculty, staff, and students.
