So you want a pole for home? Well, there are a few things to consider in general.

TYPES OF POLES, WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
The permanent poles come in one piece, and need to be screwed into the ceiling and floor with brackets, but are less expensive. The portable ones are less invasive, but cost more, for the convenience.

Most portable poles can be put on carpet or non carpeted floors, but we suggest you DO NOT use the pole on an area rug, because even with a no-slip underlay, the pole could still slip.

Most also come with a mounting option for vaulted ceilings.

There are brass, stainless steel, and powder-coated colored poles available. Brass tends to be more naturally "grippy", as opposed to stainless steel, which becomes more grippy with use. I prefer stainless over brass, because brass is harder on your hands, since you depend on friction in order to do tricks. But if you have slippery hand issues, brass might be better for you. Powder-coated poles come in colors, from Lil Mynx, and have been proven to be grippy, but when the paint chips, although still safe, it makes the pole look worn and ugly.

BEFORE YOU ORDER:
Find a place to put your pole first, to make sure you can accomodate it. Keep in mind the flooring. It's MUCH better to be on carpet, than on marble or concrete. If you fall, a harder floor will, of course, hurt more. Linoleum or hardwood is the best flooring to dance on. A drop ceiling is the best for installing a permanent pole, as you can clearly see the beams above, and you won't have holes showing in the ceiling. You'll need to know where the beams are regardless of the pole you choose, and stud finders are sometimes misleading. If a stud finder is giving you trouble, like say, being a slut and telling you EVERYTHING is a stud, haha, try holding down the button on the back with your finger and holding the stud finder an inch or so away from the ceiling. I've had success doing it that way.

Friction mounted poles are highly recommended. No need to put a hole in the ceiling, and if installed nice and tight, can hold well over 200 lbs. (from my experience of having my husband test the stability, haha). When looking for a place to put your pole, make sure you can lift your leg to the side at every angle of the room where the pole will be without knocking anything over or kicking anything.

INSTALLATION TIPS:
Every pole except the stage pole has to be installed at the beam in the ceiling. When installing your pole, take your time, and make sure it is LEVEL, and sturdy before using it. Most of us make guinea pigs of our men, haha. If he can swing on it, you should be fine, haha. Don't try to "rig" your pole. If it's not installed the way the manufacturer intended, it will fall, and you could break a window, or a leg. And please, do not try new tricks at home, or without a spotter for moves you are not very good at yet. You Tube does not substitute for class! You could really hurt yourself!

The average you're going to spend for a good safe pole will be around $350 with tax and shipping. So make sure you are prepared before you order, because returning a pole can be very expensive.

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, BUY THE PEEKABOO POLE! IT IS NOT INTENDED TO DO TRICKS ON! IT IS A GLORIFIED SHOWER CURTAIN ROD, AND YOU WILL GO FLYING ACROSS THE ROOM IF YOU TRY TO SPIN ON IT!

I've recently discovered that E-Zone at 525 South Street, sells "My Sexy Little Pole", for about $200. I have not tried this pole. If you purchase it, let me know how you like it. It is a stainless steel, semi-permanent pole, with 1 screw in the ceiling for the ceiling plate. It goes from 7 1/2 feet to 8 1/2 feet tall.

I have purchased the Platinum Stage pole, and we use the Platinum Super Poles in class. This is the pole I recommend, from experience. I HAVE tried other poles. Since I already refer girls to the Platinum Stage people, they have asked me to be an affiliate. So please let them know Jamie Gargani from Poise Dance Studio sent you!
