About Me
Currently, I work for the US Navy as an engineer with responsibility for non-metallic materials on ships in Washington,
DC. Having worked for the Navy going on 30 years, my favorite job was doing machinery silencing R&D at the
David Taylor Lab in Annapolis. I started off my Navy career charged with yacht maintenance & coaching
the varsity off-shore sailing team at the Naval Academy. I did a short stint in the 1983 America's Cup, lots of
ocean racing and many deliveries between Maine and the Caribbean.
I grew up with boats, both power & sail. I met my wife on a boat and we plan to spend the first part of
retirement cruising in the Caribbean during the winters. I have done all the maintenance and improvements on "Melody"
myself. She has been a marvelous boat for us and very well suited for the Chesapeake Bay. We regularly do race
committee duty for the Storm Trysail Club and have been on the restart committee for all of the Around The World races (Whitbread
& Volvo) that came to the Bay. I have been called a "transvesselite" by some of my best friends for giving equal
time to power and sail.
