This year's dinner was attended by 43 members and guests. Special thanks go out to John, K2JGB, who was the dinner chairperson and Nancy, N2ANG, who worked helping with preparations for our dinner and again this year designed and printed out the dinner programs. Thanks also to those members who donated door prizes for the event.
Bill, KC2AAY, was emcee for the evening. The Invocation was given by Fred, AA2KI. There was a moment of silence observed for the following silent keys from the year 2008: Leo E. Daley, WI2J, Edward P. Hahn, N2IFL, Malcom J. Lee, W2MJL, Steven Lucas Jr., AF2X, Donald G. Pagan, W8KWR, and Andrew F. Philp, Jr., WA2QOR. Amateur of the Year 2008
The Amateur of the Year Award was originated by John Struckel, Chief Engineer and General Manager of radio station WFPG. In his memory, the Southern Counties Amateur Radio Association has continued the presentation of this award, now in its forty-seventh year. The person selected is recognized as outstanding for their efforts and contributions resulting in the furtherance of Amateur Radio and anticipated continued activity. Our honoree this year was born in Atlantic City and was first licensed in the 1970's. He is active on the HF and VHF nets and during his daily travels is often heard on the local repeaters. He is also an active part of the emergency management team in Atlantic County and a member of the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service. He is very enthusiastic about amateur radio and is always willing to help new hams and potential hams learn about his hobby. He enjoys talking to people all over the world via radio. He has been active in many club activities including the recent move of the club repeater and also the upgrading and reprogramming of the repeater controller. He is also known as "the computer guy" on Field Day and is responsible for the networking of our logging computers. Our honoree is very proud of his son, Kevin, who will be graduating from C. W. Post College this year. He and his wife Debbie reside in Northfield with their pug, W2 Bark Bark. Our honoree is a valuable asset to his family, Amateur Radio and the community at large. Please welcome the recipient of the 2008 Amateur of the Year Award, William Schwoer, KC2AAY
