|I write about things which interest me, or which I'd like to learn more about. Lately I've been on two parallel binges: World War II and rocketships (though not, oddly, rocketships during World War II). The war turns up in a novel I'm working on, A Crew of Patches, which could be described as an "occult World War II thriller."
Rocketships turn up in my recent short story "Balancing Accounts." The protagonist is a rocketship, and has adventures among the moons of Saturn.
Last fall I finished writing my first novel, A Darkling Sea (the first chapter of which is my story "The Ocean of the Blind", which was collected in Gardner Dozois' Year's Best Science Fiction: Twenty-Second Annual Collection). When Darkling Sea finds a publisher, I'll post more about it.
I'm also the author of several roleplaying game supplements, most recently GURPS Space, Fourth Edition from Steve Jackson Games. At Zygote Games we're anxiously awaiting our second game, Parasites Unleashed! After that comes a game about genetics, and possibly an expansion for Bone Wars.
My complete bibliography is listed here. I've also got a wish list, of things I'd like to write if anyone is interested in paying for them.
Who am I? I was born and raised in New Orleans. Even though I haven't lived there since 1989 I still think of it as my hometown. At the University of Chicago I earned my A.B. in History of Science (class of 1988). After college I worked for two book publishers, Pelican Publishing in New Orleans and Nelson-Hall in Chicago, but I've been a full-time writer since 1991. Since 2001 I've lived in western Massachusetts with my wife and children. I write, play roleplaying games, and cook. As with most writers, the most interesting things in my life happen inside my head.
