ABOUT ME
----------------------------------------------------------

The creation FAQ is, for the most part, a compilation of others' work presented in an edited, easy to read, question and answer format. I have always had a deep love of science, my own field being that of technology. I have a degree in Computer Science from Penn State University. I currently run a small business that is focused on the niche market known as data warehousing (decision support).

My hobbies and interests include: Biblical studies, study of technology & the natural sciences, data mining, data warehousing, artificial intelligence, wireless technology, the art & science of speculation (trading financial instruments), reading, lucid dreaming, white water kayaking, gardening, home theater, home arcade, & cinematography.

I have been asked why my religious beliefs are NOT evident in the Creation Science FAQ. This is actually a compliment to me, as one of my objectives was to avoid placing the creation theory in a religious context. My religious beliefs are evident in my writing when I'm writing about my religious beliefs! :)

The creation science FAQ is about creation science, not Christianity. As clearly stated in the FAQ, creation is not only a concern of Christians. There is a whole separate "angle" on creation which has been labeled "Biblical Creation". One day I may write a Biblical Creation FAQ and include such topics as "Who is the creator? What do we know about him? What was the source of water for Noah's flood and where did it go? How did Noah get all those animals on the Ark? What was the size of the ark? How long did people live before the flood and how? How did the creator interact with early man? How does he interact with man today? Why was the Earth, and man, created? Where did Cain get his wife? Are there two different creation accounts in the Bible?" You get the idea... questions that are answered by the Bible and are of interest only to those that subscribe to the Biblical account of history. Many people have already created FAQs on these subjects, for example:

Answers In Genesis
Other great resources can be found from the more comprehensive site The True.Origin Archive.

Another reason for not including the details of my personal faith within the Creation Science FAQ is because I do not want to be quoted out of context by mean spirited evolutionists (this happens frequently, the PBS series “Evolution” is a great example!). This most disconcerting practice involves evolutionists quoting creationist expositions of a Biblical passage or statements of faith and then mocking this as an example of questionable "science".

So what ARE my "religious" beliefs? I am a Christian and I am a member of an independent Baptist Church. In short, I believe that God is real and I believe the Bible is true. God is perfect, and humans have eternal souls. Jesus claimed he was God and that only through him can you enter the kingdom of heaven. Everyone who does not put their faith in Christ will be judged and eternally separated from God upon death, this is hell, a place of torment and sorrow, not a party with likeminded friends. Judgmental? Sometimes the truth is hard for people to accept. However Jesus did not come to judge the world but to save it. God demands perfection (total purity) as the standard for entering his kingdom. Since we ALL fall short of that standard on our own, God in his great mercy and love, has provided a way for us to be forgiven of our sins and thereby made pure so that we can enter his kingdom. Jesus is that way. The ONLY way. There are no "good" people in heaven, only forgiven people.

I believe that my faith is reasonable, and that there is no conflict between Biblical faith and reason. Biblical faith is not a blind faith but is in fact faith in evidence. The Bible is very clear that faith is based on truth. I’ve read the critics and even taken secular courses that attempted to discredit the Bible (Penn State University). Some of the arguments have been so blatantly biased that they are humorous. I have come to the conclusion that there is overwhelming evidence that the Bible has been accurately transmitted over the ages and that it is true. Furthermore, I do not believe it contains contradictions; it is both internally AND externally consistent. For every criticism I’ve seen there have been reasonable answers.

The Bible presents reasons for faith and evidences supporting its truth claims. For example, Paul sets forth a list of people who saw Jesus Christ after His resurrection to remind the Corinthians that the resurrection was a proven fact (1 Cor. 15:3-8). Jesus himself is absolutely accepted as a historical figure; it’s not even debated by scholars. He performed dozens of miracles with literally thousands of eyewitnesses. He claimed he was God, and that Heaven and Hell are not only real but that only though him could you be saved.

While there is a great deal of evidence to substantiate the Bible and its claims, ultimately accepting Jesus Christ as your personal savior is something that is done out of faith. This concept is often a stumbling block that scientific minded individuals struggle with; they think "if there is no proof then it would be irrational to believe". However, we accept things on faith all the time. When you step into an elevator you do so because you have faith that the cable will not break resulting in a fall to your death. You take a small risk even though you have no idea what the condition of the internals of the elevator mechanism are, you can't even see them! You take a step of faith into the elevator because it is reasonable to do so and there is evidence to support that action.

One could argue that Atheism, or simply refusing to think about God and not deciding anything IS in fact a "faith" unto its own, and an irrational one at that.

There have been many good books written on this subject; if you are serious about seeking the truth, you should study further. Here are some suggested readings:

The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel

The Case for Faith by Lee Strobel

Why I Am A Christian Edited by Norman Geisler and Paul Hoffman

Atheism vs. Christianity Debate: Where Does the Evidence Point? by William Lane Craig & Frank Zindler

Here is the description of the book Why I am A Christian: “Perhaps you or someone you know has questions and sneaking suspicions about some of the claims of Christianity. Can Christianity really stand up to intellectual scrutiny? Haven't scientists and historians proven that the Bible is full of myths and errors? How can anyone claim to have the truth? This book faces these doubts and misconceptions head on and proves that the Christian faith is not only reasonable and true but that it is the most intellectually and existentially coherent option among all others. Christianity is both sensible to the head and satisfying to the heart. The contributors to this volume are expert witnesses for the Christian faith. They include an astronomer, mechanical engineer, trial lawyer, religious historian, philosopher, former atheist, former skeptic, and Jewish Christian. They present evidence to support their beliefs with the intent to remove common obstacles to faith. But more than that, they tell the story of how their lives were changed by encountering the author of Truth. Some of today's leading Christian thinkers offer clear and convincing arguments in this hardbound 300 page book."

I honestly believe that if you earnestly seek God he will reveal himself to you. I urge you to make this a priority in your life.

So what EXACTLY must one do to be saved anyway? Simply admit to God that you are a sinner, that you want to be forgiven, and that you accept Jesus Christ as your savior. If you believe in your heart, you will be saved! That is all God requires; however, once saved you should have a desire to develop a relationship with God. Start by reading his Words, the Bible, and by getting involved with a healthy, Bible believing, local church. Note that belief in a literal creation (as well as hundreds of other controversial matters) is not a requirement for one to be saved. I believe in creation not only because I think it is the most reasonable interpretation of Genesis, but also because I believe it has scientific merit. There are many evolutionists who have placed their faith in Christ, and are saved. Although I do not think they believe the full truth, they are still my brothers and sisters in Christ.

Gordo
