VERBAL RIFFS coming 2008 (This is advertisement only, not the cover)

POET, AUTHOR, VOCALIST, SPOKEN WORD - Demetrius Ford gives a breathtaking, eye-catching performance. His message is deep. His delivery is captivating and his words are raw, and real. Demetrius combines smooth, strong vocals with his poetic flow that leaves his audience astounded by the range of his talents. A powerhouse on the stage, Demetrius is putting his mark on the Philadelphia entertainment scene. "More than just spoken word" is the best way to describe this artist-- the versatility, energy and power that unfolds when Demetrius takes the stage is a must see. You must experience Demetrius live!

In the New Year of 2003 Demetrius created the workshop “Positive Interaction” at the Youth Study Center, which houses incarcerated youths. The volunteers consisted of poets, singers and visual artists. Demetrius has been on the scene since April of 2000; his tenacity and dedication to his craft has resulted in his first self-published book of poetry, “The Lull of My Spirit", in the year 2003.

"The Lull of My Spirit" was Book of the Month on Philly Poets; then made poet of the Month the following month in a contest. He was also a WDAS-FM 105.3 Unity Day Claim Your Culture Poetry Contest Winner each year he participated 2000, 2001 and 2003. There is so much more. Demetrius is in the stages of recording a spoken word CD & DVD that will consist of live band performances and original material. The project is titled “VERBAL RIFFS".

Demetrius has graced stages in New York on 42nd St. at the BB King Blues Club & Grill, taking part in “SPUSIC” and has rocked the mic at Nuyorican Café. He was chosen to be a featured performer for the Philadelphia Songwriter’s Project and ASCAP Showcase 2004, as well as the Philadelphia Songwriter's Summer Series 2005.

Local Spoken Word Artist is raising eyebrows on the entertainment circuit in Philadelphia. Breaking new ground for the craft of spoken word to be recognized as the new sound of Philly’s nightlife. Performing with a live band or without the power in Demetrius Ford's delivery and material is being well received by people of different race, gender and age.

The purpose of recreating the book is; "The Lull of My Spirit" was a self-publishing project using a print-on-demand service and a learning curve of mistakes, lessons well-learned and growth.

The feedback on the poetry continues to be great, readers are satisfied and appreciate the realness of the writings.
I want my work to reach a wider audience and share the growth. If you have the first book you will be impressed with "Verbal Riffs". There are more wonderful things coming from Demetrius!

Rhythm & Beats Magazine has published one of Demetrius' poems "A Beautiful Confession" in the fall of 2005.

A Beautiful Confession

i was allowed to wrap my arms around you

and feel your body pressed against mine

although it was in friendship

it was beautiful

there is truly something special about you

a connection between us two that i deny

when i am near you and i accept as true

when i am away from you

although we have never acted in harmony

you continue to pervade my mind

although you have never given me a sign

that you too have a need for me

i hope that one day—

maybe today—

you will

although i confuse my mind because i

want to share something beautiful with you

just one time—

just for an hour

i can’t deny that i have an entity

that touches me as you

that i reach out to for you

that to me is an all too surreal astral projection of you

the first time i looked at you i saw

a beautiful person

when i look at you now i see

a beautiful person

i think you are beautiful

you are beautiful
