Mr. McBrearty has been involved in political
fundraising and telephone marketing for over 25 years.
Mr. McBrearty first became involved with
political fund raising in 1975 with the Republican National Committee, when he was tasked with the responsibility of creating
of committee's telephone marketing division.
After leaving the RNC, he managed the direct
mail and telephone marketing fundraising efforts for the NRCC and directed the fund raising staff for Senator Howard Baker's
1980 Presidential Campaign.
In 1980, Mr. McBrearty and three other
executives founded Campaign Marketing Group and subsequently TransAmerica Marketing Services. These companies provided
fundraising services for the three National Republican Committees along with numberous campaigns and non profit organizations.
Under his leadership, TransAmerica grew annual revenues from $.5 million
to $7.5 million. The company had over 400 employees and offices in Vienna, Harrisonburg and Lexington, Virginia. TransAmerica
received many awards. In 1990, the company was recognized by Inc. Magazine as the 92nd fastest growing privately
held company in the country. Mr. McBrearty’s creative talents were recognized in the receipt of two ECHO Awards (the
direct marketing industries highest award for creativity and results), numerous local direct marketing awards.
In January of 1998, Mr. McBrearty sold his
ownership interest in TransAmerica to his business partners and formed McBrearty & Associates, LLC.
Mr. McBrearty is a frequent speaker and teacher on behalf
of fundraising and direct marketing. He has addressed Direct Marketing Association's annual meeting and the National Society
of Fund Raising Executives among others. He has recently taught a graduate fundraising class at George Washington University's
Graduate School of Political Management.
He authored the chapter on Fund Raising in
the Direct Marketing Handbook, compiled by Ed Nash. He has been featured in articles in Fortune and USA Today;
his own articles have appeared in FundRaising Management, Direct, Non Profit Times and numerous other
direct marketing periodicals.
He is currently a Board Member of the Direct
Marketing Association of Washington’s Educational Foundation.
Mr. McBrearty lives in Alexandria, Virginia
with his wife, Denise.
