Community Values, Past and Present
Yesterday, many of my friends and neighbors from across Bowdoin, Bowdoinham
and Richmond gathered for a party to celebrate our campaign for the state legislature.
I was humbled, energized and invigorated by this terrific turnout for commitment, compassion, and common sense.
For me, the gathering was also
another reminder of the power and potential of a community. Bowdoin, Bowdoinham
and Richmond have changed enormously since the photograph to the right was taken -- almost exactly a century ago, at another
political celebration. Today we are different, but still strong.
As I’ve gone door to door in Bowdoin, Bowdoinham and Richmond, I have heard
in many comments a yearning for a renewed spirit of community. People want to
help those less fortunate than they. They want to be helped. They want to see hard work, local enterprise of all kinds, and every able body pitching in to help. They want to know that by the power vested in community, something of what we take
for granted today will still be here for their children and grandchildren.
Good leadership understands this desire, and builds on it. I believe my four years as a town selectperson have demonstrated this sort of leadership. With your support, I will bring this focus to Augusta as well, and work to represent and build
on what is best about the great communities of Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, and Richmond.
Yours for tomorrow,
Seth

Note: most states have major budget shortfalls. Those that do not are largely states with strong fossil
fuel (TX, AK, WY, WV) or food (IN, SD, OR, WA) based economies.
