Update - May 2008 - Expanded DSL in Bowdoinham
Just weeks ago, Verizon completed improvements to DSL service in the downtown Bowdoinham area.
Specifically, residents within 2.5 to 3 miles of the Verizon central office near Town Hall should now have the option
to subscribe to DSL through Fairpoint, our new landline utility.

Hi-Speed Coming at Last
I am pleased to report that at least two
forms of high-speed internet access are now available to almost every home in Bowdoin, Bowdoinham and Richmond.
Depending where you live, the options may include satellite,
cell-tower broadband, DSL, and/or cable. Thanks to our advocacy and demonstrated demand,* the last three options are
expanding rapidly - and are generally more affordable than satellite.
Here are three improving options to look into:
Cell-tower service: several companies now offer
portable EVDO access, including both Verizon and Sprint. If you have cell phone access at home, this may be an excellent
new option. Contact your current cell phone service to get started.
DSL: Last year, Maine's Public Utilities Commission recently accepted a Fairpoint takeover of Verizon lines. I worked hard to improve the terms of this merger, which
now include significant broadband expansion in our area, and at least 90% coverage in Fairpoint's Maine territory
within 5 years. Click here to sign up for Fairpoint's expanding and affordable DSL service.
Cable: In Bowdoin and Bowdoinham, contact Comcast for information.
In Richmond, contact Time Warner Cable. This spring, Bowdoinham is renegotiating its cable franchise and hopes to gain
greater coverage in northern and eastern Bowdoinham.
Last spring, I am proud that my committee and others in the Legislature
created the ConnectME Authority, which is now providing much-needed assistance to unserved areas. In this respect,
Maine and Kentucky are leading the nation. At the federal level, the U.S. unfortunately has the worst level of
buildout investment and coverage among all developed nations.
