Gerald D. “Jerry” Borror

    KEYSER, W.Va. - Gerald Douglas “Jerry” Borror went to be with his Lord on Thursday, April 23, 2009, at WMHS Sacred Heart Campus, Cumberland, MD, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

     Born August 28, 1941 in Keyser, WV, he was a son of Hazel (Summers) Borror of Keyser and the late Roy H. Borror.

     Jerry graduated from Keyser High School, Potomac State College and received his Bachelor Degree in Psychology as well as a Master in Business Administration from Frostburg State University. Jerry also acquired a Masters of counseling from Marshall University Graduate College. He was an avid Marshall Football fan and loved to attend Marshall Football games with his children.

    After moving from Keyser upon graduation from Keyser High School, Borror lived in Fairfax Virginia where he worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Fairfax City Police Department. He received his Black belt in Tae Kwon Do from Grandmaster Jhoon Rhee and returned to Keyser in 1979 and opened up a Jhoon Rhee Franchise. He remained in martial arts, having his own school until June 30, 2008, at which time he retired due to health reasons. He was in martial arts for 46 years and reached the rank of 8th degree Black Belt. He has many black belt students in the area. He promoted students who have their own martial arts schools in West Virginia, Hawaii, and South Carolina. Jerry enjoyed running, participating in national and local races and marathons for over 30 years including the Marine Corp Marathon.

     Jerry also owned and operated Insight Therapeutic Services in Keyser, a private mental health counseling service. Borror was licensed in mental health in both West Virginia and Maryland and was a Master Addictions Counselor. Borror also worked for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services where he was a Children's Service Supervisor in both Mineral and Hampshire counties. He retired in social work from the Allegany County Department of Social Services.

     He belonged to many organizations, including, Keyser Kiwanis Breakfast, C&0 Canal Bike Patrol, National Red Cross disaster team, State of Maryland Disaster Team, AF AM #51 Davis Lodge, and the Scottish Rite in Cumberland. He attended Bonnieview Chapel in Keyser.

     Surviving in addition to his Mother, Hazel Borror, are daughters Deborah Pfeifle and husband, Rex, of Orlando, FL, Donna Heinrich, and her husband, Mike of Colorado Springs, CO, and Carly Borror of Keyser; two sons, Erich Borror, Clarksville, TN, and Matthew Borror of Frostburg, Maryland. Also surviving is one brother, Calvin Borror of Fairfax, Va. and five granddaughters.

     The family will receive friends at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Sunday, April 26, 2009 from 6 to 9 p.m.

     Funeral services will be held at Bonnieview Chapel in Keyser on Monday, April 27, 2009 at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Garlitz officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.

     Interment will follow in Cabin Run Cemetery. A trust fund bas been established for Jerry's daughter, Carly. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of memorial donations to Carly Borror's Trust Fund c/o Chessie Federal Credit Union, 1015 Florida Avenue, Keyser, WV 26726.
