Lewis “Dewey” R. Engle

     BRADENTON, FLA. - Lewis “Dewey” R. Engle. 78 of Bradenton, Florida, Boothbay Harbor, Maine and formerly of Keyser, WV, passed away March 15, 2009, at home.

     Born July 13, 1930 in Keyser, WV, he was a son of the late Lewis F. Engle DDS and Helen (Rice) Engle. He married Barbara L. Boyers in November 1951 who preceded him in death in August 1998. He married Judy Jordan in October 2001.

     Mr. Engle attended Gettysburg College and WVU. He served in the U.S. Navy as a dental technician. After his discharge from the Navy, he began his career in the dental industry culminating in the creation of Engle Dental Systems. He was also instrumental in the opening and the continuation of The Candlewyck Inn, Keyser, WV.

     Since retiring, Dewey assisted his wife Judy in the operation of The Boothbay Harbor Marina. He enjoyed his many friends, boating, playing cards and loved to travel.

     He is survived by his wife Judy (Jordan) Engle; a daughter Lucinda Leonard and husband William Leonardi of Warwick, New York; three sons,  Lewis B. Engle, Tracey and Chelsea Brotemarkle of Frostburg, MD, Fred C. Engle and wife Sharon of New Creek and Robert H. Engle of Salem, MA; six grandchildren Braden Engle, Lee Leonard, Cooper Engle, Anna Catherine Engle, Anderson Engle and Garrison Engle who fondly referred to him as "Granddad" and "Papa Lew"; three step-children, Cathy, David and Chris and ten step-grandchildren.

     The family will receive friends and family on Sunday, March 29, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Markwood Funeral Home in Keyser, WV.

     A celebration of his life will immediately follow at 4 p.m. with the Reverend Ernest L. Poland, Jr. officiating. Another service will be held in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, at a later date.

    The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, 12902 Magnolia Drive, Tampa, Fl 33612.
