Lydia A. “Liddy” Evans

     WESTERNPORT, MD. – Lydia A. “Liddy” Evans, 94, of 421 Hammond Street, Westernport, died on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, WV.   

     Born March 13, 1915 in Pittsburgh, PA, she was a daughter of the late George A. Smithey and Ida (Baer) Smithey Burton.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. Evans on March 12, 1993, her daughter, Eleanor Jean Bane on February 21, 2007; a brother, George Smithey and a sister, Anna Mae Humbertson.

     Mrs. Evans was a homemaker. She attended Westernport United Methodist Church, and was a member of Westernport Senior Citizens.

     Surviving are her grandchildren: Susan Welch of Stephens City, VA, Fred Bane and wife Sarah of Fort Ashby, WV and Becky Meinhardt and husband Steve of Brandywine, MD; great-grandchildren: Amy Ratke and husband Justin, Freddie Bane, Holly Bane, Stephen Meinhardt, Samantha Meinhardt, and Evan Meinhardt; one great-great-grandson, Mason J. Ratke and a brother, Harry R. Burton and wife, Jean of Keyser.  She is also survived by a very special loving friend, Dixie Brinkman of Cresaptown, MD.  The family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Bess and Connie for their many years of love and devotion to her medical care and to Phyllis DiUbaldo, a faithful caregiver.  

      Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser on Friday, March 27, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p m. 

      Services will be conducted at Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Carl “Sandy” Cowan officiating.

     Interment will follow in Philos Cemetery, Westernport, MD.
