Harman
KEYSER, WV – Harman “Harm” Coolidge Harman, 85, of Keyser and
formerly of Cumberland,
died Sunday, May 24, 2009 at Heartland of Keyser.
Born May 10, 1924 in Dry Fork, WV, he was
a son of the late Orie Abraham and Verna Susan (Greenawalt) Harman.
He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Tommy, S. Earl, Herbert
R., Herman C. and John Harman and two sisters, Ruth Williamson and Kathleen
Harman
Mr. Harman was a retired conductor/flagman
on CSX Railroad. He was a Rifleman 745
in the U.S. Army during WWII and served in Normandy,
Northern France, Ardennes and Rhineland. On September 29, 1944, he was wounded in France and received
the Purple Heart Medal & Ribbon. Other
honors he received were European/African Middle East Theater Ribbon, WWII
Victory Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal.
He was a 1942 graduate of Keyser High School, a Methodist by faith, a
member of Railroad Trainmen Union, Boyce
Houser Post #41, American Legion, Keyser and VFW Post #13, Cumberland, MD.
Surviving are his sister
Mildred Toquinto of Mount Airy,
MD; a step-sister, Barbara Milleson
of Fort Ashby;
a sister-in-law, Jean Harman of Keyser; a special nephew Bob Harman of Keyser,
a special niece Pam Menso of Frederick, MD
and a number of other nephews and nieces.
“Harm” has unselfishly donated his body to
the West Virginia School of Medicine in hopes of helping someone else. The family will receive friends at Markwood
Funeral Home, Keyser on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, from 6:30 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. with
the Reverend William A. Linhart officiating
