
Wayne A. Kerns
KEYSER, W.Va. – Wayne A. Kerns, 80, 385 Hilltop Avenue, Keyser, died on
Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at his residence.
Born on November 6, 1928 in Piedmont, he was a son of the late Marion C. and Gertrude
E. (Alderton) Kerns.
He was also preceded in death by a brother Clay Kerns, step-brother Ken
Divebliss and step-sister Hilda Baker.
Wayne
was retired from Westvaco as a Pulp Mill Tour Foreman. A 1946 graduate of Keyser
High School, he was a U.S. Army Korean
veteran, honorably discharged as a staff sergeant in military police and had
been stationed in Panama and
Germany. He was a member of First
United Methodist
Church, Davis Lodge 51, AF&AM, 32nd
degree Master Mason, Keyser Rescue Squad, Loyal Order of Moose #662, Keyser and
Life Member of VFW Post 6775, Queen’s Point, McCoole, MD and Victory Post #155,
Westernport, MD.
Surviving are his wife Jenny L. (Daskal) Kerns, a son DeWayne Kerns and wife Mary Kay; two
daughters, Teresa Kerns and Lana Jones and husband William, all of Keyser;
three step children, Donald Jones, Maria Bechdel and
Jennifer Thomas; nine grandchildren, Steven Markle,
Rachel Brooking, Morgan Robinson, Whitney Smith, Jessica Smith, Brittney
Redman, Caleb Jones, Gabriel Jones and Zak Kerns. He is also survived by five
step-grandchildren, Alexa, Helena, Olivia,
Colin and Joseph and fifteen great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at
the Second Baptist Church,
Hollywood Road
(Limestone), Keyser on Friday, March 13, 2009, at 3 p.m. with the Reverend
Samuel Biser and Reverend Shane Whitacre. The family will receive friends at the church
one hour prior to services. Wayne’s
body was donated to the West Virginia University Gift Register.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the
Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser.
