Richard E. Pancake, Sr.

     NEW CREEK, WV – Richard E. “Bud” Pancake, Sr., 85, of New Creek, died on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Potomac Valley Hospital.

     Born on June 15, 1924 in New Creek, he was a son of the late Frank C. and Robbie Naomi (Dellinger) Pancake.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Marie Pancake on March 8, 2008 and a brother Spencer L. Pancake.

     Mr. Pancake was retired from Westvaco.  He was a graduate of Keyser High, a U.S. Marine Veteran serving in the South Pacific during WWII and reenlisted in the Korean War.  Bud was a member of VFW Post 3518 Nancy Hanks and Keyser Boyce Houser Post 41, American Legion. He was Brethren by faith and attended Sunnyside Church of the Brethren. 

     Surviving are his son, Richard E. Pancake, Jr. and wife Tammy; his three grandchildren, R. C. Pancake of Camp Lejeune, NC, Savage Levi Pancake and Cheyenne Summer Pancake, both of New Creek; a brother Frank C. Pancake, Jr. of Charlottesville, VA and a sister, Muriel F. Hesse Kidner of Keyser.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

     Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser on Sunday, September 27, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Funeral Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday, September 28, 2009 at 11 a. m. with the Reverend Sonny Dodds officiating.  Interment will follow at Pancake Cemetery, New Creek, WV.  Full military honors will be accorded at the cemetery.
