Mildred G. "Midge" Sawyers

     WESTERNPORT, MD – Mildred G. "Midge" Sawyers, 91, a resident of Moran Manor and formerly of Keyser, died on Thursday, February 28, 2008, at WMHS Braddock Campus, Cumberland, MD.   

     Born June 28, 1916 in Hilton, NY, she was a daughter of the late Elmer Willis and Bernice Ethel (Stevens) White.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Sumner "Tom" D. Sawyers on July 12, 1999, daughter-in-law, Carol Sawyers of Westernport and one brother, Allan White and wife Eva M of New Carrollton, MD.

      Mrs. Sawyers was a graduate of Morris-Harvey College of Charleston, WV with a B.A. Degree in Bible & Religious Education.  A minister's wife of 58 years, devoted to her work for the Lord, she was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Keyser, United Methodist Women, Past President and member of Burlington United Methodist Family Service Auxiliary and former member of Terra Alta O.E.S.

     Surviving are her two sons: Thomas Lee Sawyers and Edwin S. Sawyers and wife, Nancy (Miller), all of Westernport; three grandchildren: Thomas Lin Sawyers and wife Michelle, Michael Dean Sawyers and wife, Kelley and Bethany Ann Sawyers; two step-grandchildren: Harry and Tracy Wilhelm, four great-grandchildren: Jennifer, Lacey, Tessa and Michael Sawyers and two step great-grandchildren, Charity Flaskamp and David Grady.  Mrs. Sawyers was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

     Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser Monday, March 3, 2008, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p m.  Funeral services will be conducted at Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Bart Thompson officiating.

     Interment will follow in Philos Cemetery, Westernport, MD.
