Your assignment is to collect a set of sources to use in writing
your research paper. You will be required to bring in the sources themselves,
or Xerox copies of the pages that you expect to use, or digital files of the sources.
You should read through
your sources before bringing them in, marking the sections that you think you’ll actually use.
How many sources are enough? It varies, depending on how good each
source is. You can expect that you’ll need a few sources for each page that you write, so you should aim for a total
of 8-12 useful sources for a 6-10 page paper.
The sources can be the following:
REQUIRED:
Articles from magazines,
journals, and newspapers
Information from
websites and webpages
RECOMMENDED:
Books in your field
(but not textbooks or general encyclopedias)
OTHER SOURCES:
Pamphlets and brochures
Videotapes or DVDs
Notes from an interview
Where do you find your sources? Here is a link to a helpful list
of Research Databases. Also, use the various resources that you explored when you completed
the Website Reviews assignment.
You will need to keep track of the bibliographic information about
each source that's required for your research paper's documentation. So, make sure you have exact titles, authors, dates,
publishers, page numbers, and web addresses.
Here are two helpful hints:
(1) Order as soon as possible books and
articles from other libraries, and
(2) Use a system to organize your sources,
such as putting a number on each individual page.
