Your
assignment is to write a short report that reviews four good websites in your career field or major.
(NOTE: Try to find more than one website
for each of the four categories, so that you can then select the best ones you found.)
1) 1)
A professional association or organization in your field—ideally, one that has a student membership. For example, if your field is probation, here is a website
you might choose: American Probation and Parole Association.
2)
2) A blog in your field. Try to find a good one that's from a company
or individual worker in your field, or from a student or a professor. (If
you can't find a good one, let your professor know that you need some assistance.) For example, a dental
hygiene student might choose a blog such as this one: The Tooth Booth Dental Blog
3) 3) A
website that is filled with good resources and links for people in your field. Look for a site that would be
helpful to you as a student and then a worker because it can help you find almost anything you might be looking for in
your field, including the latest news and topics in your field, lots of good links, topics, and/or news. For example,
if your field was fashion, this would be a good website: Fashion-411.
4) 4) A webpage that is
filled with good resources and links for the topic you've chosen for your research paper
(not just one article on the topic!). If you're writing your paper on "Resolving
Conflicts in the Workplace," for example, this webpage would probably be a good choice to find sources for your paper: http://www.mediate.com/workplace/.
To find these websites try using an Internet search engine, such as Google. Other good search engines are Mamma, Dogpile, Ask, Clusty, Ixquick, and Kartoo.
Type
in the name of your major or field (use quotation marks if it's more than one word), the + sign, and another word to narrow
down the search, such as the following: links, resources, association, organization, student. In addition, here are some
websites that have links to professional associations:

Next,
explore the websites that you find, to decide which four would be worth recommending to other students in your field. Be sure to keep track of the URLs (web addresses) of these websites and include that piece
of information in your reviews.
Look over what's on the main page
of these websites and try out their various links. Then you are ready to write
your four reviews.
In your review of each website, you
should both describe the website and evaluate it. For your description of the
site, please consider the information available right on the website, the links and other resources on the site, and any special
features it has. For your evaluation of the site, consider its level of difficulty
or expertise, any strengths and weaknesses you notice, and its overall value to people in your field.
Your should aim for your comments
about each website to be two paragraphs in length, with each paragraph roughly 4 –5 sentences long.
Your review of the websites should be accurate
and informative. Think of it as a document that will give clear and helpful information
about four good Internet websites to other students in your field. Also, let
this assignment be a chance for you to collect your own set of good websites
in your field that you hope will be helpful to you in your education and career.
