SPREAD A MESSAGE OF INTERNATIONAL HOPE AND UNITY!
2007 Daniel Pearl World Music Days

New York Governor Eliot Spitzer Issues Daniel Pearl Proclamation

Eliot Spitzer

Empire State Citizens Raise Their Voices In Harmony For Humanity

Governor Spitzer and The State of New York has joined with The Daniel Pearl Foundation and Orbital Sound in promoting international friendship by issuing an official proclamation making October 1-15, 2007 "Daniel Pearl World Music Days" throughout the Empire State. The Governor's Proclamation is a simple, yet powerful way that all New Yorkers can show support for tolerance and recognition of a shared humanity. Inspired by the legacy of journalist and musician Daniel Pearl, World Music Days uses the universal language of music to spread a message of hope and unity across cultural divides. By issuing an official proclamation, Governor Spitzer has reaffirmed New York State's commitment to international friendship by taking a stand against the divisive forces that took Danny's life. The State of New York Executive Chamber Proclamation reads:

          Whereas, the citizens of the Empire State welcome the opportunity to join with the people of the world for the fifth annual Daniel Pearl World Music Days, a fitting and beautiful tribute to the inspiring legacy of a truly remarkable individual who sought to unite all of  humankind through his love of writing and music;  and

            Whereas, a classically trained violinist and avid fiddler and mandolin player, Daniel Pearl clearly believed the universal language of music to be an important and powerful aspect of human expression, and he used his passion for music to make friends of strangers wherever his travels might take him;  and

            Whereas, an extraordinarily talented domestic and international journalist, Daniel Pearl opened our minds with his delightful humor, insatiable curiosity, and unwavering objectivity - uncovering difficult truths and, at the same time, offering a different perspective and shedding light on other cultures and customs;  and

            Whereas, in repudiation of his senseless death, his treasured family and cherished friends carry on his life's work and desire to change the world by promoting cross-cultural understanding, combating hatred, bigotry, and injustice, and advancing tolerance and humanity through music;  and

            Whereas, coinciding with October 10th - on what would have been his 44th birthday this year -  Daniel Pearl World Music Days are a glorious celebration of tens of thousands joining in "Harmony for Humanity" at concerts and musical performances in countries across multiple continents, with the strength of this global community defying brutal acts of savagery and terrorism and further reaffirming that human kindness prevails;  and

            Whereas, this special observance is a joyful remembrance of a life taken much too soon as the masterfully gifted and compassionately benevolent Daniel Pearl will live on in our hearts and continue to bridge the differences among us -  offering the hope and promise of a brighter tomorrow;

            Now, Therefore, I, Eliot Spitzer, Governor of the State of New York, do hereby proclaim October 1-15, 2007,  as

Daniel Pearl World Music Days  In the Empire State.

In keeping with our Primary goal of "music making a difference", Orbital Sound, under the "Harmony for Humanity" banner has been helping to focus awareness on World Music Days since 2004. We respectfully ask you to join with us as we continue to support Ruth and Judea Pearl and their Foundation's mission of using the power of music to promote cross-cultural understanding that will help make a difference for us all.

ABOUT WORLD MUSIC DAYS

Daniel Pearl World Music Days was created in response to the 2002 murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl at the hands of extremists in Karachi, Pakistan. Danny was a talented musician who joined musical groups in every community in which he lived, leaving behind a long trail of musician-friends that spans the globe. Danny's family and friends formed the Daniel Pearl Foundation with the mission of promoting cross-cultural understanding through journalism, music, and dialogue. Commemorating Danny's October 10th birthday, World Music Days uses the universal language of music to encourage international fellowship and promote "Harmony for Humanity."
