The Saving Private History Project records the wartime stories of American servicemen and women. The mission of the project is to collect, record and preserve in their own words the memories, accounts and recollections of war veterans. These oral histories will become appropriate learning tools for historians, educators, students and future generations, globally. Funding for the project comes from the sales of the recorded audio documentaries to libraries and organizations, private donations and corporate sponsorship. Material collected by the Saving Private History Project will be donated to the Library of Congress where:

  • Interviews will be preserved according to professional archival standards.
  • Interviewed servicemen and women will recieve a letter acknowledging participation in the Veteran's History Project and a personal copy of their interview on a CD - an $80.00 value.
  • Information from the Biographical Data Form will be presented to the public in the project's National Registry of Service on their web site.
  • Recorded material will be available to researchers, educators, family members, and others at the American Folklife Center in the Library of Congress.

By contributing an interview, war veterans become a valued participant in the Veteran's History Project and will play an important role in the creation of a collection that is to become a permanent part of the nation's record. Orbital Sound looks forward to recording the stories of service that make it possible to learn about the past from first-hand accounts of living through those extraordinary times.
