Pawtucket, RI Ukes for Kids Event
(Photos below)
In June of 2005, members of the Providence Uke Club assisted the Ukulele Hall of Fame (UHoFM) in teaching twenty five kids how to play their new ukuleles donated by the UHoFM/Ukes
for Kids project. The children learned three chords and then learned how to play several songs. Each child was
given a ukulele, case, book, and electronic tuner. Dave Wasser guided the group of kids in chord formation and how to
read their books. Members of the Providence Ukulele Club gave individual attention to the kids.
When the lesson was over, the kids headed outside for a sing-along and then a "Uke-Parade"
which at first was led by a friendly, accordian-playing "monster." A local music teacher will follow up on the kids at
school in September and help them with any problems.
Ukes for Kids has already given away hundreds of ukuleles to kids all over the country.
If you would like to help put ukuleles into the hands of the next generation of players you may make checks payable to "The
Ukulele Hall of Fame / Ukes for Kids" c/o 15 Concord Ave., Cranston, RI 02910.
Ukes for Kids can also accept credit card payments through PayPal at www.paypal.com and then
payable to orders@ukulele.org. Specify that your payment is for the Ukes for Kids fund.
The Ukulele Hall of Fame
is a non-profit with 501(c)(3) status, and all contributions to Ukes for Kids are 100% tax deductible. Their mission
is to document, preserve and promote the history of the ukulele, its players and makers, as well as to inspire and engage
people everywhere in the perpetuation of the ukulele and ukulele music through performances and exhibits
