Despite the frigid temperatures in Massachusetts, Johnny D's in Somerville was smoking with another hot show from Ukulele Noir. Davis Sweet wowed us with "Moonlight Serenade."
Rick Russo brought along his long-lost Mai Tai Serenaders. A uker can't go wrong with a hot slide guitarist
(Stevie Lightning) and a "bass uke."
Joel Eckhaus introduced the Boston area to "Ukeabilly Music." Enjoy
"Teddy Bear" below and get a load of that Earnest Instruments bass. The Founder spoke of sex and the ukulele.
Craig Robertson and Uncle Shoe played "So Nice." See the all too short video below to give you a taste. Greg Hawkes
and Tim Mann welcomed the season with a very uko-techno "Jingle Bells." Special guest Uke Jackson came all the way from "Pencil-vania" to wish us a "Melekalikimaka" and also treated us to some Cliff Edwards numbers. (Anyone
who covers Cliff is OK with The Flea.) Dave Wasser outdid himself on this one. He
covered The Rolling Stones as George Formby might have. He showed off his fancy ukin' in several instrumentals.
Finally, he made us all cry when he sent us home with "Home." These Ukulele Noir shows are fabulous and somehow
keep getting fabulouser. You should have been there. -The Flea
