February 24-26th, 2006
On Friday we had a couple of baby related appointments. We went to see Anne Narru at the baby doctors office. The baby to be had a good strong heartbeat. I have able able to feel the baby almost night now. The baby has a schedule too. Seems to play about fifteen minutes after Erin snacks. Everything is a okay thus far.

We went to the new Arizona pizza grill in Leonardtown for lunch. Liam watched his Boohbah show as the place has little TVs at some tables. I ordered seafood pizza with Shrimp and Scallops. I know that sounds weird but it was quite good. Erin had a delicious burger and Liam had regular pizza.

After this it was off to get an ultrasound. Erin volunteered her and baby to be for one at the Home Pregnancy Center. They are trying to get licenesed to give them and they were in training. Liam and I waited in teh lobby and read while the training went on. We went back at the end and watched. Liam does know that that is a baby on the screen and that Mommy has a baby in her tummy now.

We then got stocked on groceries and watched the Olympics that night.

Saturday was a relaxing day. We watched an interesting Documentary called The Baby Human. It was neat comparing notes between the show and Liam. Erin caught up on some clothes and I helped put them away. We enjoyed playing with Liam. We flirted with going caching but didn't. One of these days we will get out there again. We have not cached in two months which is by far the longest ever.

On Sunday we watched the acclaimed March of the Penguins with Liam in the morning. THe cinematography was excellent. It was amazing to watch how determined these creatures are to sustain new life in the bitter winetr of Antartica. Those male Emporer Penguins are truley super Dads! In the afternoon Liam and Mommy went Birthday shopping. We decided to celebrate my Birthday on Sunday a day early.

We had a wonderfull Steak dinner with fresh Asparagus. After Dinner I got Cheesecake and wonderful gifts. Mom and Dad Day sent me money and I got old Monday Night Football DVDs. My mom sent me a nice Green Polo which I am wearing today. Erin and Liam got me two books. One about Kentucky basketball and the other about the old American Football league. They spoiled me as they also got me Pajamas and a stocking cap that came in handy this frigid morning.  It is hard to believe I am 42 now. The years pass so fast anymore. I don't feel 42. Some morning my old hip feels old but I still feel young at heart and my family helps me immensely with that. How can one feel old when you are down on the floor playing blocks or matchboxes! Erin set teh bar high for me to make her feel special in a couple of weeks. It was a nice relaxing weekend. March will be busier with the anticipation of seeing Mom and Noah in a couple of weeks and Mom and Dad Day down the next weekend. It will be a lot of fun!

February 18-20th, 2006
Well sickness blasted into the house yet again this winter! I was sick with fevers and chills mid week and by the weekend Erin was sick as a dog!

We did nothing this weekend. I went out and got some groceries on Saturday. Liam was better now and Liam and I went to see Doctor Sheth on Monday. The good news is his ears looked great. Doctor Sheth and I were very encouraged by the results of the 5 day treatement of Zithromax. We are going to hold off on having tubes put in if the Zithromax works as well as it did this time.

Erin on the otherhand was in bad shape. There were a couple of times this weekend I would have rather taken her to the hospital. I am worried about the persistent fevers that have not subsided for three days. She is currently at the doctors this Tuesday AM. She just called must be a bad flu. They put her on the old Amoxillin standby. Hope she gets better soon.

Liam was pretty chipper so we enjoyed time with him. It was a quiet household as Erin slept a lot and Liam took his regular naps. I caught up on some reading and worked on the computer.

We did watch Saw2 last night. It was not edge of the seat like the first one. You kind of knew the premise and knew when the gore was coming. It did have a neat twist at the end so that rated up with the first one. We all can't wait for a time when we can get everyone healthy at the same time again. It feels like it has been awhile.

February 8-12, 2006

Well, it was a dandy weekend!  Just the right length, just the right amount of fun, and just the right amount of work (very little!)

I’m going to start with Wednesday though, because a really good thing and a really bad thing happened then.  Somehow, Anna, Liam’s babysitter, realized that if she put Liam upstairs in a playpen at naptime, he’d SLEEP!  So, finally, after months of trying to negotiate a way for him to get a nap, we’d found a solution.  He is just to distracted to sleep only a few feet from the other older kids.  So, THAT was a good thing.

We’d had a good time at bowling, and though we noticed Liam tugging at his ears a little, we figured some Tylenol would get him through until Friday when I could get him to the doctor.  Not so.  Around 9:30, Liam woke up REALLY fussy, and screaming.  He didn’t stop for nearly 2 hours so I knew something was wrong.  He’d never cried for so long before.  So, not knowing quite what to do – and I think my brain shut down a little – I suggested to Russ that we head to the ER.  He agreed, and soon we were making the 20 minute trip – Liam crying the entire way.  We arrived, and by the time we were in the exam room, Liam was clearly exhausted, and actually taking little naps.  Once examined by the ER Doc, it was noted that his right ear was “buldging” and his left was “really red.”  Thus, the doc gave us a strong script of Zithromax and we went home.  This time, Liam slept and we all fell into bed around 2:00am.  We figure a tympanostomy (tubes) is in his near future.

So, Thursday was not a bad day, although, we were all tired.  Fortunately, Liam was well enough to go to daycare, and Russ and I went out to lunch together just to keep ourselves awake.  At home, my new cleaning lady was busy at work.  I tried not to worry about ay mishaps.  After picking up Liam and heading home, I opened my front door to a fresh scent, and a gleaming kitchen floor.  From that point on, I found myself circling around the house in awe.  It was wonderful. This young gal accomplished more in 5 hours than I could in 5 days!  No dust, no grime, no dog hair, clean toilets, clean cabinets, shiny mirrors, and even clean picture frames, just to name a few of the dozen tasks she did.  Worth every penny!!!  Speaking of pennies, though, the poor gal accidentally broke the little adobe Piggy bank that Kathy had brought me from Columbia many years ago.  Of course, the cleaning gal felt terrible about it, and offered over and over to pay for it… but I couldn’t help but laugh.  I told her that I’d been waiting nearly 30 years for someone to break that piggy bank just so I could see what I’d shoved in it!!  Aside from a few wheat pennies, the prize was rather disappointing.  I assured her, that I wasn’t the least bit angry, but told her to REALLY enjoy a couple of pieces of bacon!

Friday morning Liam and I had to get up early to go to his Pediatrician’s appointment at 9:00.  Unfortunately, Dr. Sheth couldn’t see into his ears much because of a lot of icky drainage.  So he prescribed some drops and told us to come back in a week.  We were back home by 9:30 and had a good time playing cars and blocks on the floor.  It was nice not feeling like I had to do any major cleaning.  It really gave me more time just to be with Liam and Russ.  After a bit of lunch, we drove North to Prince Frederick for my UltraSound.  Liam took a little nap on the way, which was a good thing.  Once we were in the exam room, he woke up in time to see the images of the baby on the screen.  Like previous times, he felt best when he was sitting right beside me.   Yes, we were lucky enough to find out the gender.  If you’d like to know, click HERE!  Everything looked good, and we got some nice pictures.  It was a joyous time.  To celebrate we headed over to the nearby metropolis of Waldorf to do a little shopping at BabiesRUs. Then we wandered around Border’s Bookstore, and then went to the Mall as Liam needed some new sneakers. The Motherhood store also had some sales, so I bought a pair of pants and a shirt that Russ thought would look nice on me.  Then, after a long and eventful day, we returned home.

Saturday, we had a nice pancake breakfast, and I had a nice conversation with Mom on the phone.  Then I called my friend, Tammy, to close out the Natural Family Boutiqe Party Orders that we’d been gathering together the previous week.  After a shower, I headed out to run a few errands before the storm was due to commence.  I returned, just as the RAIN began to fall.  Liam helped me decorate some Valentine’s for his daycare friends.  By evening though, the rain did turn to big white flakes, and we all awoke on Sunday to about 4 inches of white beauty.

Sunday, after a quick breakfast, the three of us headed out to the front yard to build a snowman.  It was a little embarrassing because neither Russ nor I could quite remember just how to MAKE a snowman!  After we got the initial snowballs rolling to a decent size though, we were relieved to see body shapes forming.  Liam delighted in just trouncing around in it, and EATING it!  I wish someone smart would design some kids mittens though!  I must have put his back on his little hands a dozen times!  Next time, I think I’m just going to use a pair of Russ’s socks!  He helped us pat the snowman together though, and then had a fun time riding around on the snow shovel.  After “Al,” the snowman was finished, we went back inside to dry off and get some lunch.

After Liam’s nap we headed out again to a nearby park (that had a hill or two) to have another round of sledding in the laundry basket!  More snow began falling while we were there, and it truly was a magical time.

It was a great weekend, but it’s always hard to put Liam to bed on Sunday nights after such a nice time.  Monday morning brought us back to cold reality, but at least we made some good memories and took some nice pictures and movies!

Yet another weekend with sickness still affecting the house.

On Tuesday of last week though Erin had another babywearing class. This time she had it at the Leaonardtown Library for I think 8 people. The class went well and Liam was a great model and behaved well. It was nice to hear some Dads came to get the hang of it also.

If all goes well Erin would like to hold another in late May.

On Friday Russ was going to work from home in the afternoon as he needed to pick up Liam from Daycare early as Anna had an appointment. Well it turned out that I ended up home all day with pretty much the same thing Erin had the previous Friday. I did well just to get Liam fed and keep a watchful eye out for him. Needless to say we were all asleep by 9 on Friday night as Liam showed signs of a cold and Erin was coming down with one. It has been an awful winter for us with sickness.

On Saturday I felt a lot better. I was tired but my stomach was much better and I ate breakfast as I was starving. I hardly had anything to eat the day before. Erin was battling with her cold but she did not want to cancel her Natural Family Boutique Party. It was lightly attended as only Anna showed up so Erin ran next door and recruited our neighbor Sheila to come over. She has grandkids and teaches so she found a few items and Anna did too. Tammy, the host, is so knowledgeable and a great Natural parent as well as her husband Rick who I used to work with.  Although the crowd was small everyone had a good time and I peaked in from time to time. Liam LOVED a wooden toy that wooden balls rolled down as well as the chocolate strawberries he tried to help himself with.

On Saturday night we all felt better and Erin and I watched the Wedding Crashers. It was decent and pretty funny but not rip roaring. Vince Vaughn is such a maniac in some movies.

On Sunday we ran to the grocery for Sushi and Crab Legs for the game. Erin and Liam napped in the afternoon and I watched a Super Bowl Marathon on ESPN2. We all gathered around at game time. Erin and I made a fun bet on the game as she took Seattle and I took Pittsburgh. She now has to learn to play John Madden Football now. The first half was a defensive struggle but Pittsburgh kept up the pressure and took control in the. They were definitely the better team. It was cool to see Bettis go out a champion!

Hopefully next weekend we can all be well. It will be a fun weekend at the start as we may just see if we are having a Jaxson Garrett or an Aven Clare. We will not be posting it here as Dad Day wants to be surprised but if you ask we will tell you. Thta is if we find out ourselves.
