It’s been a whirlwind of a Holiday,
so I’ll try to catch it all up here as much as possible.
Friday, December 21, 2007:
This was a normal workday for both
Russ and I. I went out to lunch with some co-workers of mine because it was my
annual review time. No worries there. I
also had to take some extra lunch time because I had to go sign some paperwork for Jaxson to get some speech therapy help.
Friday evening, our friends, Bill
& Janet came over with their 3 yo daughter, Rosalia. They were all going
to watch the boys for us so we could go to my company Holiday Party at the Woodlands Grill.
The evening was very nice, and the food was wonderful. Russ and I both
had a nice time socializing with the small number of Greenfield employees. It
was an early evening though, but we were happy to be home by 10:30 or so.
Saturday, December 22, 2007:
This was pretty much a Get-Ready-for-incoming-family-Day. I started out the day by heading to the grocery store.
Russ stayed home and took care of the boys. My trip to the grocery store
actually wasn’t that bad. It was early enough that I missed the hoards of people,
and I just had a leisurely time gathering a few things for my Christmas dinner menu.
That afternoon, Russ chopped up a bunch
of wood, so we’d be well stocked for Christmas. I set to work getting the rest
of the gifts wrapped, and tidying up the guest room. It was about this time that
Liam got a call from Santa!! He confirmed that he’d been good, and that he wanted
a Hot Wheels bike and some Batman stuff. To boot, after nap, Liam was surprised
to receive a reply letter in the mail from SANTA too!! Boy, the big guy goes
to great lengths to keep everything straight! Maybe Liam was just being too indecisive.
;)

Russ and I just spent Saturday evening
together. We just made a point to steal a few minutes to ourselves before the
holiday commenced.
Sunday, December 23, 2007:
The boys and I took our time getting up
and around on Sunday. However, Russ was up and playing a few Christmas Carols
on the piano! Mom and Dad arrived right around 11:30. We got some lunch, and then Dad took a nap right along with the kids.
We decided to just cook some steaks and potatoes for dinner. It was nice
to not really have any plans. We just enjoyed our time playing and visiting together. Mom made a pumpkin roll with Liam

Monday, December 24, 2007:
Poor Russ had to go to work today. The only bittersweet consolation was that he had a big end-of-the-year datacall to
fill, so at least his day would go by fast.
Once we had all gotten a bit of breakfast,
we set to work in the kitchen. We wanted to get a few things prepared and baked
so Christmas dinner would be quick to the table the next day. Dad and Liam put
Jaxson’s wheelbarrow together – a gift from Grandpa & Gramma. Mom and I worked
to get a few pies done, and it was just a nice feeling working in the kitchen together.

Dad and I also took the dogs to the dog
park. Cleo was just about jumping out of her fur, so we knew it’d be a good thing
to take her out to stretch her legs. The dog park turned out to be pretty busy. By the time we left, there were about 8 dogs frolicking about. Cleo even got to play with another boxer!

That evening, we decided to go over
to Solomon’s Island to have a nice dinner together. We chose to go to Stoney’s Kingfishers.
We arrived at the perfect time. The place wasn’t too busy, and we got
a nice table near the fireplace. We enjoyed some excellent seafood, and both
the boys were very well behaved.

After stuffing ourselves, we returned
home. It was time to don the boys in some festive pajamas and set out cookies
& milk and carrots for You Know Who. We read from the Nativity Book and then
snuggled all in bed. Surprisingly, it only took a few minutes for them to settle
into sleep.

Christmas Day, 2007:
Well, Santa had visited! He left a Hot Wheels bike for Liam, and a Tykes bike for Jaxson among other favorite games, books and toys. The morning was spent opening stockings and all the gifts from Santa. Once we’d gotten
through all that, it was about lunchtime, so we grabbed just a small bite to eat, knowing that a larger meal was in store
for us a few hours later. We were just finishing up when we heard a knock at
our door. It was our good friend, Rick, aka “Mister Rick.” Rick has become the boys “Local Uncle” and he’d brought them each a couple of very special presents. He got them new Leap Pad books, a ride on toy for Jax and a Spiderman web shooter
for Liam. The boys had wonderful fun sharing a few moments with one of their
favorite guys. The timing worked out perfectly, as we were just hanging out. It was too early to start dinner and Kate and Rich hadn’t arrived yet.

Shortly after Rick departed we started
in on dinner and put the boys down for a nap. Rich and Kate were running a little
late, so we adjusted our time, expecting them to arrive around 3:00. However,
their trip didn’t take as long as I thought it would, and they came through the door right around 2:00. We hadn’t even stuck in the ham yet! Luckily, it was a small
ham, and within an hour, we had everything on the table… the ham, pineapple stuffing, oyster stew, fresh boston lettuce salad,
mashed potatoes, squash, rolls, honey pecan peas… and lots of PIE!

After dinner we rolled ourselves in the
living room to open the presents we’d gotten for each other. The process took
WAY to long, but we finished up around 8:00. The boys were exhausted, so it only
took a little coaxing to get them into bed. The rest of us collapsed in the den
and just relaxed. It had been a beautiful Christmas.

Wednesday, December 26, 2007:
We didn’t have to rush too much this
morning, but Russ had to go back to work, and Mom and Dad had to get on the road to return home. The day was dreary, as only the day after Christmas should be. We
had a good breakfast together. Russ was the first to depart, and then Mom and
Dad packed up their car too. Fortunately, Kate and Rich planned to stay the day.
After we got the breakfast dishes picked
up, Rich had a good idea to go check out Calvert Cliffs State Park. Lots of times
you can find interesting sharks teeth on the beach. Though the weather wasn’t
the best, we decided to just bundle up and give it a try anyway.

Russ seemed to remember the hike
to the beach being about a quarter mile. Um – he was a bit off. In reality, we consulted the trail map at the parking lot, and discovered that the shortest way to the
beach was no less than 1.8 miles. Oh well.
I had Jax in the sling, and the path was pretty level, albeit long. Liam
did okay, but Aunt Kate ended up carrying him a good portion of the way. Rich
had gone on ahead (he actually hoped to find a few teeth and “plant” them for Liam to find).
Jaxson was warm and snug in the sling, so he napped almost the whole way to the beach.
It started to rain ever so slightly when we were about a tenth of a mile from the beach. When we came out of the sheltered path and on to the beach, the wind was NASTY! The raindrops were bigger… and I swear some were hail. We
did a cursory gland up and down the sand. Not surprisingly, we didn’t find any
teeth, but we did find some really great shells and fossils. Then we all snapped
a pic and got back on the path. It was still raining by now, but not enough to
soak us. Rich took a turn carrying Liam for a bit too, so that helped, and the
trip back didn’t seem quite as long as the trip in.
Understandably, we were all pretty tired
when we returned to the van, but felt pretty justified in doing nothing for the rest of the day. We got a little lunch when we got home, and then I put Liam down for a nap.
Jax had slept most of the morning, so I didn’t require him to get an additional one.
He enjoyed just being with us while his big brother snoozed. Rich built
a fire in the fireplace and it was pretty cozy.

Once Liam got up, we made some Hot
Chocolate and even roasted a couple marshmellows in the fireplace.
It was about this time that Russ
returned from work. The day had gotten pretty nasty, so he was happy to see the
cozy den. We ordered pizza for dinner, and Rich and Kate treated.

After the boys went to bed, we attempted
to watch the first episodes of Monty Python, but soon realized that Rich was probably the only one who’d make it through more
than one episode.
Thursday, December 27, 2007:
I needed to go into work today, but delayed
my departure by a couple of hours so we could all get a little breakfast together. Russ
convinced me to letting the boys go with us to work, instead of daycare. Jax
seemed to still be really tired, and sported a low fever. Liam was estatic when
he heard the possibility of going to work with Dad, so we went with the plan. Russ
left with Liam around 8:45. I pulled out of the garage with Jax at about 9:15
and Rich and Kate pulled out of the driveway right after me.
The day was bright and sunny – go
figure – and I had to admit that going to work with my little guy made the trek a little easier. There was only two other people at my place, and only a couple at Russ’s work, so the kids didn’t disrupt
much of anything.
Jaxson was happy to spend most of
the time snoozing in my lap. He was fine, but just really tired. From what I heard, Liam just had a wonderful time, hanging out with his dad. He played on the floor, drew pictures, went to “Old MacDonald’s” for lunch, and saw all the planes in the
hanger. He even napped in the next door cubical in his Batman sleeping bag.
We all returned to a tidy house,
since Erin, the cleaning lady, had come. We just had leftovers for dinner. I got a few things around to pack, but figured I’d leave most of that for the next
morning. I was pretty tired myself.
Friday, December 28, 2007:
I couldn’t help but sleep in. I really didn’t want to depart from my cozy covers. The kids
were sleeping, and even the dogs were quiet. I couldn’t linger too long though,
because I needed to get things around to head to Doylestown.
I gave the kids a simple breakfast
and finished packing. It seemed I needed to remember so many things. Finally, Russ was loading the van, and we were on our way. It
was a pretty good trip. When we were about an hour from Doylestown, Noah called
us on the cell phone, and mentioned that he did NOT have to work that night, as previously thought. So, we agreed to pick him up early.
We arrived in Doylestown right around 4:00. We picked up Noah, but then had to do some shopping in the nearby shopping center
for Marcie. We decided to get her a bunch of Gift Cards to stores in the shopping
center, because she could walk to them. As it turned out, we got her a Spa GC,
a Bon Ton GC and then a few other simple ones, including lunch at a nearby restaurant.
I even got suckered into making a hair appointment at the Spa for myself the next day!
So, Marcie was glad to see us. We arrived at her apartment just a little after 5:00.
I was glad to be done traveling and shopping for the day, and the boys were thrilled to play with her box of toys. That night we just made some sandwiches for dinner and visited. It was really nice, and Marcie had made the place very festive in the coziest of ways.

It wasn’t long before we were telling
Liam and Jax that Santa had told Grandmom that he still had a few presents to deliver for the boys. So, it was pretty easy
to get them into bed, as they were very excited to open even more gifts the next day.
I stayed up with Russ, Noah and Marcie for as long as I could, but by 11:00 I was anxious to crawl into bed too.
Saturday,
December 29, 2007:
All of us
had a pretty good nights sleep. It wasn’t too difficult to follow the wee early
risers to go out and explore what more Santa could have left. They were surprised
to see a race car set and a construction set and even a firetruck! They had a
grand time playing with those toys while we all had a light breakfast. We decided
to do that, but then after opening presents, we’d make a bigger brunch.

So, we commenced
to opening the rest of the gifts. Marcie loved all her gift cards. Noah was thrilled with his gift cards and cash even though we’d encased them in coal (black play-doh). Russ got a nice robe from his mom, and she gave me a great Sock Monkey and Sock Monkey
book much to my childish delight. Noah got a lot of nice things, and gave the
boys some nice toys. Everyone was very pleased with everything, and it was just
wonderful to share the smiles with each other.
Once the opening
was done, we had a good brunch, and I changed my clothes to go to my hair appointment.
I got a really nice shampoo, cut and style. It’s probably the most I’ve
ever paid for a haircut, but it turned out really nice, and I was very confident in the stylist’s suggestions and tips. I’ll need to practice to make it look as good as she did though.
While I was gone
Russ fixed Grandmom’s laptop as the Primary Hard Drive was dicconnected so he reconnected it and it booted correctly. Noah
then got the wireless connection working so her laptop and wireless is back in business and she is ready to start training
on it again.
That afternoon,
we enjoyed some cake an ice cream for Noah’s birthday – the BIG 18!! He opened
a book I’d gotten him, and a card with some cash in it from Marcie. Russ and
I promised him an online shopping trip when ever he was ready. Soon after cake,
Noah got called into work. At first we were all a little disappointed, but were
proud of him for not leaving the restaurant without a busser for the night. He’d
see us soon enough though.

After Russ
dropped off Noah at work, we just enjoyed our conversation for a little bit, but then got dressed to go get some dinner. We decided to eat at the Lobster Claw – the place where Noah worked! First off, our table was REALLY clean. ;) Noah got us our drinks as we looked over the menu. A very
good waitress took our orders. The food was outstanding. Every once in a while Noah would come out and clear a nearby table, and stop to check in. It was pretty cool.
After dinner,
we bid the Lobster Claw and it’s staff (by now, they knew the relationship) and returned to Marcie’s apartment. I let the boys play just a little bit, and then got them in the tub.
I had just a little time to relax after they got to bed, but then left with Russ to go pick up Noah from his shift.
Shortly after
we returned, Russ’s cousin, David, dropped by to visit for a little bit. Noah
looked on the Best Buy website for a little bit to get some ideas on how to use his Gift Card.
I was beginning to fall asleep on the couch even before David left. After
he did bid his goodbye, I snuck into bed.
Sunday, December
30, 2007:
Reluctantly, we
got out of bed a bit on the early side. Fortunately, Marcie got the boys some
breakfast. Russ, Noah and I got dressed warm to go for a short day of geocaching
with our friends, Sue and Perry. To boot, Kate and Rich were going to join us! We left Liam and Jax with Marcie so they could have some additional time with their
Grandmom. The three of us got a quick bite at Burger King, and headed for Sue
& Perry’s house in Quakertown. Rich and Kate were to meet us there too with
Titania and Oberon!
After some cheery
introductions, we set out in two vehicles to find a few of Perry’s hidden caches. It
was great fun. The first one had quite a few stages to it, but we always knew
that Perry was there to give hints if needed (which were often needed, I’m embarrassed to say). Nearly all the caches of the day had some sort of swamp theme. We
think the most scenic one was of a Heron Rookery. The most interesting find was
when Noah found what we all thought was the Geocache… a cigar tube with a log book… when Perry surprisingly told us that “wasn’t
it.” He went to a location just feet away and pulled up what he said was the
actual cache hidden by a friend of his. So, we aren’t quite sure what the cigar
tube was, but the mystery made it all the more fun.

We finished
up right around 2:30. We bid farewells and headed back to Doylestown. We needed to grab something to eat, and pack up to head back to Maryland.
We ended up with a full van of goodies and made haste to drop Noah off only because it was starting to hail. Luckily, the temperature warmed as we headed South, but it still rained the entire way home.
Erin and I got
the boys off to sleep after some tasty steaks on New Years Eve. Erin worked and I took the kids to daycare, I rode in the
morning and watched old shows like the Brady Bunch. In the afternoon I watched football and worked on my Madden game.
We barely made
it to Midnight and had some red champagne and went to bed by 12:30.
This morning Liam
and I built a plane I got him for Christmas. We will watch some football and order Chinese tonight.

It was a very
hectic holiday, but those cozy moments with family and the exchanged smiles and hugs make it all worth it in the end.
Now, to go do some laundry…
