Going Nowhere Weekend
Yep, for once, we don't have a lot to blog about.  There was no football this weekend, no parties, no frantic errand running (no money) and no committments.  It was awesome!

Friday we postponed our frenzied cleaning because we figured, "who are we cleaning for?"  We decided to wait until Sunday to clean, so the house would stay reasonably fit when Mom and Dad visit on Thursday.  Friday night after dinner we watched the movie, Drillbit Taylor about a homeless guy who becomes a body guard for some High School freshman.  It was pretty funny.

Saturday morning we got to sleep in.  I mean, the boys and dogs are usually up and hungry by 7:30, but that suits me fine.  Oh, we did have to stick around so the Metrocast cable guy could fix our DVR.  He came about 10:00, so that was pretty convenient too.

Most of Saturday was spent lounging around.  I kept the laundry going, and we did venture out around lunchtime to go pick up some books at the library and get just a few groceries, but we weren't out much more than a couple hours.  It was rather rainy anyway. The boys enjoyed some carmel apples that we got at the store.  Jax mostly just licked off the caramel, so I cut it up for him.  Liam had to keep shoving his on the stick... but they ate them all!

Earlier in the week, I scrounged up some money and with a Best Buy coupon that I got off a bag of chips, I purchased the new Wii Music game.  It is lots of fun and VERY educational for the boys.  On Saturday after nap, we gave it a try...

Saturday night we watched a cute kids/dog movie called "Because of Winn Dixie."  I'd read the book a few years ago, and it was your usual heartwarming story.  It's worth a watch for sure.  Liam wasn't feeling that well, so he was happy to snuggle with me on the couch.

Sunday, the boys just enjoyed playing most of the day.  Russ cleaned the downstairs bathroom and watched the game.  Redskins won again... barely.

I started in on house cleaning, but kept getting sidetracked.. you know... putting laundry away and then ending up weeding and reorganizing your closet?  Hate it when that happens.

By evening, I was getting pretty tired, so we just made a good Breakfast for dinner.  The pancakes were perfect for a dreary evening.

That was about it. Nothing fancy, but just some really good family time together at home.

Football and Babywearing

We had a three day weekend. Survivor is back on so we have been engrossed by that again on Thursday evenings. Good cast of characters this season.

On Friday morning the Chimney Sweep truck pulled up at 8AM to clean the fireplace. They did a very thorough job and it looks like the chimney is in decent shape for the next season. As soon as they were done and breakfast was out of the way Erin and I set about cleaning house. We finished up at lunch and the boys had lunch. We dropped them off at Daycare and went to check about what Santa has in mind for Christmas. We are doing a little at a time this year.

 S-JaxsonPlaysPiano.jpgS-LiamWithACastleHeBuilt.jpg

We picked up the boys and did a little Halloween candy shopping and ate dinner at IHOP which was pretty quiet on a Friday evening. That night after the boys were in bed Erin and I wii’ed and got slaughtered in tennis by the game. We used to be good at tennis.

Saturday we awoke to an away game for Liam’s Pax River Raiders Flag B team. They were to play the Prince Frederick Eagles. We had tried to play one of there teams earlier this year and it rained (tropical storm). Then the game was rescheduled and they never showed so the two Raiders Flag teams scrimmaged each other. Seeing as this was a home game for them they were there. They were team of mighty mites as they had 5 scores to the Raiders 2. They even shut down the two really good players on the Raiders team who only got one score a piece.

After the game we stopped by SFW grocery and picked up a few groceries. After lunch Erin then loaded up the van with 100 goodie bags for distribution at the Southern Maryland Baby & Toddler Fair.  She had to stuff said bags to get a discount on the vendor booth at the event.  She brought along all her slings, and a few things to make the booth look inviting.  It wasn't far from home, so soon she was setting things up.  The event started around 1:00, and she was soon donning new and would-be parents in slings, wraps, pouches and the like.  Our friend, Lisa showed up around 2:00 with her baby, Ashton, who was very content in the soft-structured back carrier.  So Lisa did double duty as a model and facilitator right along with me.  There was a good turn out, and we had a nice time introducing people to babywearing, or helping them perfect their beginning interest.

 S-SouthernMarylandBabyFair-SMHEC-Display.jpgS-SouthernMarylandBabyFair-SMHEC-Display2.jpg

S-SouthernMarylandBabyFair-SMHEC-LisaWithAshton.jpg

While that was going on our friend Lisa stopped by with two of her three, Eric (who plays on Liam’s team) and his little brother William. I had a rocky start as Liam spilled his popcorn. As soon as I vacuumed up that mess Jax spilled his so out with the vacuum again. Actually they were all pretty good except I had trouble keeping them together at the same time.  Anyhow I made it through.

Erin and I watched the movie Superbad on Encore Saturday evening. Funny movie we had seen before but caught jokes we missed the first time.

On Sunday we puttered a little early in the morning. The boys watched cartoons and played while Erin talked to Dawn and I read the news on the computer. For the late morning and early afternoon I split a bunch of wood. My splitter needs fluid as the hydraulics did not work well and the axe got a good sharpening. I am sore but it got done. Erin mowed the yard and tried to chainsaw some piece down to better splitting size for me. The chainsaw is a pain as the chain kept coming off still. We may look for one next year when things aren’t as tight.

I showered and settled in by a newly made fire to watch the Redskins game. At halftime it was 0-0 and the Skins defense looked awesome. The Redskins one by the skin of their teeth as the Brown’s kicker Dawson missed a 52 yarder to tie it. The Redskins are now 5 and 2 and look really good to make a playoff run this year. I also picked the winner of Erin;s Babylegs contest the day before when she had a raffle. Babylegs are little leggings with no sock to keep baby legs warm. Think Flashdance for babies LOL.

S-SouthernMarylandBabyFair-SMHEC-RussPicksBabyLegsWinner.jpg

I watched 60 minutes as Erin put the boys to bed. Erin and I then watched reruns of Jon and Kate plus 8 on the On Demand.

Next weekend it sounds like the newlyweds, Paul and Sandy are visiting. We are looking forward to that as when they came down last Paul was ill. We are still waiting to see if Erin’s parents are coming down for Halloween. It would be neat as this has become a tradition as of the last few years.

Holiday plans are starting to form for us. It sounds like we will have Thanksgiving dinner with Kate and Rich. We will then bring my Mom back for December for a change of pace for her and to let her share some holiday time with the boys. We will then celebrate with Noah the weekend after Christmas.

On Thursday night, Russ watched the boys at home so I could go shop at Leprechaun Lilly's and do my volunteer shift up at the fairgrounds.  As always, the twice annual sale was super busy, but I managed to snag some good deals, including several turtleneck shirts for the boys for a buck a piece and a couple of great Christmas gifts.  I worked the register until about 10:30pm.  It was a lot of work, but it was kinda fun too, and I saw several moms who I hadn't seen in a while.

We had to work on Friday, so getting up after such a hectic evening was a challenge.  Still, we all managed to put in a full day.  But that was only the work day...

Because we had to let our cleaning girl go to help us financially, we dedicated Friday nights as our cleaning nights.  So, once home, I headed upstairs and worked my way down.  When Russ got home, he dove into the bathrooms.  I didn't get everythign I wanted to done, but managed to make a considerable dent.  Russ got two out of the three bathrooms done.

As much as we wanted to sleep in on Saturday, Liam had a home flag football game.  In fact, I barely opened my eyes, as Russ asked me what time it was.  I looked at the clock and said, 7:15.... 7:15???!!!!  We ALL overslept, as we had to be at the field by 7:30.  Well, we made it by 7:45 but it was a crunch!  Liam had a good game, and even our friend, Mr. Rick, came by to take a few pictures and cheer on the Raiders.

When the game was over, we let the kids all play on the playground for a little while before we headed to the library.  We checked out a few books and then jaunted across the parking lot to the fire station.

The station was having a demo day, so the boys got to see the trucks up close and personal.  In fact, Liam and his dad even got to go up in the Ladder Bucket!!  The boys got several goodies and coloring books, and got to hear a presentation about fire safety.  Liam gave Sparky the Fire dog a big hug, but Jaxson buried his head against me in shear terror at seeing the big costumed fellow. He kept saying, "Scared, Momma, Sparky all gone?"  Some kids are scared of clowns... mine's scared of a big dalmation in a fire hat.  We rounded out the day by watching the firemen take the top off a crashed car with the jaws of life and other interesting implements.

We then went to Burger King for lunch before we did a few errands.  We had to get dog food, so the trip to Petco somehow included a new Beta Fish for Jaxson... welcome "BobbyRuss."  We finally got home around 3:00 and both boys were in need of a nap.  I even took a little snooze.

JaxsonsNewBetaBobbyRuss.jpg

Around dinner time, we started watching one of the latest Star Wars movies.  Liam is pretty intrigued with ol' Darth Vader these days, so we picked up the DVD at the library.  He enjoyed it, but said he was really sad at the end when young DV (Anakin Skywalker) got his legs lightsabered off by Obi Wan.  Fortunately, no nightmares occured.

Now Sunday, we actually did sleep in a little bit.  We thought about taking the boys to a local corn maze, but I had a few projects (Halloween Costumes) I wanted to start in on, and just didn't feel like going anywhere.  Russ watched the Redskins game, but was bummed they lost by one point.  He said they didn't play well to begin with.  It was a bit of a catch up day, and I think it did us all good.

By Monday, we were all ready to get outside.  The weather has been really beautiful, so we decided to do a little Geocaching to celebrate Columbus Day.  I normally don't have that holiday off, but was given the option to switch it with Veterans Day, so I did.  Russ made us breakfast, and just before lunchtime, we headed in the direction of Leonardtown.  We had 10 caches on our list.  We had a splendid afternoon, and didn't even have to venture more than 40 minutes from home.  We got to be outside, see a couple places we'd never seen before, and enjoyed each other's company.  We even took Cleo the boxer!  We managed to find 8 out of the 10 caches on our list, and even did an impromtu hide.

By the time our caching adventures ended, we were all pretty tired.  We got some fast food for dinner, and made it home in time to watch the season premier of Little People Big World.  We let Liam stay up to watch the show too, but he got pretty sleepy near the end and had no objections to crawling in his bed.  We ended our long weekend by watching another of our favorite shows, Heroes.  It was so nice to just be together at home.

Football, Parties, and babysits

The week was tough as Erin and I were tired from the wedding weekend and the kids seemed to battle colds all week but never quite getting them or fevers. On Wednesday, oddly half the team went to practice but no coaches showed so we all left. It is still a mystery what happened although it was spritzing rain in the area. It did prompt a phone line by all of us parents.

On Friday Erin and I had a sliver of time to celebrate our 6th anniversary which was actually on Sunday. Stealing some time for ourselves is not so easy but  we accomplished it. Erin had a dental appointment in the morning and dropped Liam off on the way at Daycare. I got up with Jaxson and got him ready for his speech therapy class. We drove down to it and Erin met us right when we were about to start. Jaxson loved being back with Miss Penny and she had a few bus related items as well as a bus story to read Jaxson. It was a good visit and Penny marveled at Jaxson’s recent speech growth. Jaxson even worked on the word “motorcycle” all last week to where he is closing in on saying it correctly.

After Speech Therapy, Erin dropped him off and I went to the Post Office to mail CDs out of the wedding the weekend before.  I totally forgot my addresses; So Erin and I met back at the house and then went to the post office. We had decided to go over to the Solomon’s and window shop. The day was sunny and bright and we just enjoyed holding hands and walking and just being together alone for a few hours. We decided to eat at Catamarans. Erin had a Rockfish stuffed with Crab that was huge. She liked it but took about half home. I had a Shrimp Scampi in Pasta which was quite tasty.

 6thAnniversaryCatamarans-HappyCouple.jpg

Alas the afternoon flew by and we went to get the kids. Liam needed new shoes. His Skechers were getting tight at the toe. We will save them for Jaxson as they are in good shape. The boys must both be hitting a growth spurt. Liam picked out a pair of “Transformer” sneakers that lit up. I lit up when I saw they were also on sale. We then had to stop at Target to get a birthday present for one of Liam’s teammates.  Team parents have nicknamed him “Big Eric” as there are two Eric’s on the team. We also picked up supplies for the game the next day as we were the parent sponsors for half time and after game snacks. We also had a lengthy family debate on what we would all be for Halloween. It seems Liam would like to be the reaper now and he is usually the lynch pin to what theme we will be for Halloween. I was going to still go as Frankenstein but Erin said they were not a theme which I did not see. After a bit of time bouncing ideas around Erin thought of A Christmas Carol. Brilliant! Liam as the Reaper, Erin as Christmas Past, and I as Christmas Present. Of course Jax will be Scrooge. We grabbed a quick bite to eat at Five Guys.

I was on the phone Thursday evening with my Cousin Chris in Kentucky. They had read about Katherine’s passing and a lot of his family was actually able to go to the service. I was glad as when I spoke to Chris on Saturday night all my cousins David, Billy, Little Bill, and Chris were pall bearers. Erin and I could not make it to the service in Kentucky but did send flowers. My Aunt had been sick for a long time but her passing has been particularly rough on my Uncle Bill and my Mother. I have been calling her more frequently the past few days. She is doing good considering how close my Aunt and her were,

Friday evening we watched a little TV but the whole family was in bed early for the game the next day.

 RaidersFlagBAtDunkirkWarriors-LiamJaxGoodlockShot.jpg

We were up and getting ready before the sun was up. Liam wanted another good luck #1 picture at the bottom of the steps. The Coles do like their rituals. Driving up to the game in Dunkirk we stopped at McDonalds in the Solomons for Coffee a little breakfast. We ran into Lisa who was taking “Little Eric” up to the game.

 RaidersFlagBAtDunkirkWarriors-RaidersBreakBanner.jpg

When we got to the game we had geocached in this park and knew pretty much where we were going. It was a little after 8 by the time we got 8 players on the field which is the mandatory for flag football. Coach Billy was getting ready to put flags on his 3 year old. The boys played a spirited game although Liam was having a rough time with the sniffles. Our boys scored four times with two touchdowns a piece by Jason and Shaun who, at five, has the moves of a 12 year old. On his last touchdown he feinted and juked on little Dunkirk Warrior almost out of his cleats. We don’t keep scroe but the Dads, including me, always count in our heads the scores and it was Pax River Raiders 4 and Dunkirk Warriors 3.

We headed home after the game and ate lunch and Jaxson went down for a nap. Erin and Liam headed out to the birthday party at Forrest Hall farm which is another one of those Agratainment farms in the county. There are two or three of them and they all seem to do well. Erin said there were four birthday parties going on. Big Eric’s theme was Speed Racer. Erin got books in lieu of toys about Speed Racer and Star Wars. I picked out a card that had blinking lights all over it that Big Eric liked. The boys rode the wagon around the farm, busted a piñata that looked like Speed Racer’s Race Car, and played games. Liam was getting a bit tired and Erin said he had a mini melt down on the way out of the parking lot.

Meanwhile while Jax slept.  I laid on the couch and watched football and promptly nodded off for an hour. Jax and I were going MAJOR grocery shopping so I got him up and dressed. He was an angel at the grocery. He had a couple of melt downs this weekend including one where he tried to bite me twice. His communication is much better but out of all three of my boys he has the worst temper. He is the only one who tries to break or damage things when he is mad. We are working on it. The grocery bill was immense but we are stocked up for the month.

Jax and I got back and were pooped after I got groceries put up. Erin and a grouchy tired Liam arrived shortly after. We ate down in the den and watched TV. The boys went to bed early and Erin was asleep by 8:30. I nodded off and then woke up and watched SNL which had another great Tina Fey as Palin spoof on Thursday night’s debate. Erin watched some of it Thursday and I watched it all and called Noah. Noah and I talked for about a half hour that night about the debate. He is excited to vote for the first time in this election.

On Sunday Erin cooked breakfast for the boys. I took the leftover bacon and made an egg and some toast as I awoke an hour later at nine. Erin and I tag teamed mowing the back yard and I mowed down the garden. Next week I will till it over. At ten Lindsay, who watched our kids last weekened, brought hers over. We were watching them for the day while they put the finishing touches on their new house before moving in. They have a daughter named Hailey who is 6, Ethan who is 3 and little Rylin who is 5 months. The kids played in the yard most of the afternoon stopping for a good lunch. After lunch they watched “Peter Pan” before going back out to play.

 WatchingPeterPan.jpgKidsEatLunch.jpg

RylinEatsACracker.jpgErinFeedsRylin.jpg

I was watching the Redskins beat up on the Eagles and watching Rylin except for diaper changes which I called Erin in for. We ordered pizzas and then put Jax to bed as the older kids watched “Benji.” Lindsay and Les stopped by a little after 8 after getting mattresses in Waldorf. The kids were all really good and we were glad to repay the huge favor of Lindsay housesitting for us last weekend.

The next few weeks are football, Leprachaun Lily’s where we are consigning some of the huge mass of non-played-with toys. Profits will go back into the Santa Claus fund. Erin also will have a table in a couple of weeks showing her baby wearing items and educational purposes.

We'd planned for this weekend for a long long time. We knew our friend, Paul, was getting married, and had just recently found out that Russ was to be his Best Man. I had arranged for my co-worker and friend, Lindsay, to come take care of our kids and dogs for the weekend. She and her family have been living with her mom all summer while thier house was being built. Therfore, it was a nice way for her to have some immediate family time for herself. She and her husband have three young children too, so we all knew it'd be a handful, but agreed to return favors, so it's worth it.

Russ dropped off the boys at their regular daycare around 8:30 in the morning on Friday. I finished the last preparations for our time away and packed our suitcases. We headed North around 10:00am. We hoped to arrive at the Hampton Inn around 3:00pm. Lindsay was picking up the boys from daycare later that afternoon and then spending the weekend at our house.

Paul called in a few times while we were en route. Russ was off to a great start as Best Man. We arrived at the hotel right on time. It was a very nice choice - complete with portraits of a greyhound and borzoi in the lobby, no less! Once at the hotel, we settled in a little bit, and then checked in with a few friends who'd also be attending the Rehearsal and Dinner. Paul was due to check into the hotel, however last minute details caused him to just meet us at the church for the Rehearsal. So, we changed our clothes, met our friends, Dave & Terri in the lobby and then traveled together to the Church. We were early, but ran into some other of our friends, Don & Amber who were also early. We enjoyed the time just tailgating in the parking lot despite a slight rainy mist. It was just really nice to see everyone and the excitement was high.

Soon it was time to go into the church and get the rehearsal started. As usual, it had some blips and bumps along the way, but finally the momentum got them all through the basics. We got to meet some other members of the wedding, and say hello to the parents of the bride and groom. Once everyone felt they could pull this wedding thing off, we split off in the direction of the Italian Restaurant for dinner.

The dinner was great. We really liked catching up with Dave, Don, Terri and Amber, and all enjoyed seeing how happy Paul and Sandie were. The drinks were plentiful and the food outstanding.

RehearsalDinnerRussErin.JPG

The height of the evening was when Paul distributed the Groomen's gifts. He and Sandie had come across a rather original idea. Suspicious smiles erupted when the box was unwrapped to reveal a shipping lable from a place called Whoopass! Once the boxes were opened, each Groomsman had his very own personalized BobbleHead!! It was hilarious, and very well done. We hated to call the evening to an end, but knew there was a busy day ahead. The restuarant packed up all the leftovers, and we began loading them into the van. Fortunately, Paul's suite at the hotel came with a full sized fridge.

BobbleHeadsRuss.JPG

Once back at the hotel, we delivered the leftovers to Paul's room, and told him to try to get some sleep in the big lonely suite! Russ and I returned to our room, and watched a little TV before we drifted off ourselves.

Russ's adrenaline kicked in about 6:30 am. He needed to meet Paul around 8:00 to deliver some items to the reception hall. He had several duties to accomplish throughout the day, and couldn't help by wake up with his busy brain. The hotel offered a substantial continental breakfast, so we ate our fill before meeting Paul. He was in good spirits, and didn't show any nervousness. I decided to stay at the hotel for a variety of reasons. Paul and Russ were due for some private time together, I needed to wait for Noah to arrive, and I had to figure out how to effectively use my camera.

Also during the morning, I checked in online to see if Liam's football game went on schedule despite the rain. Turns out it did, but they still got in their game. The only downer was that Lindsay couldn't find Liam's football jersey, so he just wore his black shirt. He was the only kid without his jersey, but he didn't mind. Unfortunately, a photographer showed up to take some pictures of the boys, and our little player stuck out like a sore thumb. Oh well. We thank our friend, Rick, for picking him up and taking him to the game.

So, while I geeked out at the hotel with my camera and PDA, Russ and Paul finished their errands for the day and returned right around noon. We went up to Paul's room to eat some leftovers. Noah arrived and met us up there as well and joined us for lunch. It was nice to just have some easy time together, and we all enjoyed keeping Paul's mind in a fun state... the Blue Coller Comedy on TV helped too!

After we'd stuffed ourselves again, Paul remembered he needed a couple of things (and Russ wanted to get some supplies for "the car"), so Noah, Russ and Paul went out to K-mart. I stayed back at the hotel. They weren't gone long, and then we spent just a little more time hanging out in Paul's room before I decided to go back down to our room to get myself ready for the evening. Just as I was heading back, Dave, Terri, Don and Amber arrived in the lobby. I pointed them to Paul's room. Once I had myself ready, I returned to Paul's room to assist... as I got an emergency call from Russ stating that he'd broken a button. Luckily, the front desk had one of those emergency sewing kits.

I fixed the button, and Amber and Terri helped all the guys with their cuff links and collers and all those things that make tuxes a mystery. Finally, all the penguins looked pretty good and it was time to head back to the church. Before leaving the hotel, we spent some time taking some nice picures by the lobby fireplace. Amazingly enough, we managed to fit all of us in our van for the trip to the church.

LobbyRussPaulDaveDon.JPG

Back a the church, we had a few minutes before people started to arrive, so Noah, Amber, Terri and I put the bows on the pews. Then we were ushered in by Don and Dave and began smiling as more of our friends arrived - Sue and Perry, Diane, Jim and Danielle. It was so great to see them all, and we were so excited for Paul. While we waited (since the wedding was running a tad late because Paul's sister hadn't yet arrived in from California) we shared pictures of our kids, and chatted about the rehearsal dinner with the bobbleheads.

Finally, Russ and Paul walked out and the procession began. Sandie's sister wore a really pretty satin and sequined blue dress. Then procedded the Flower Girl, Junior Bridesmaid and Ring Bearer. Sandie walked down the aisle with her father. Behind Sandie flowed a 5 foot train and a Train Bearer nicknamed, "Caboose." Sandie looked beautiful, and so very happy. The wedding ceremony continued as most ceremonies do. It was a lengthy Catholic wedding, but every moment was symbolic and cherished.

After the couple was announced, and proceeded down the aisle, we followed outside to get our bubbles and set up our cameras. Outside the church was a limo for the Wedding Party and a Rolls Royce for Paul and Sandie. There was a short delay while the guests hugged and congradulated all members of the wedding. Fortunately, the rain held off long enough for Paul and Sandie to come out amidst thousands of bubbles, for their Champagne toast by the cars.... photo opportunity but one filled with laughs and smiles. Terri, Amber, and Noah were all riding to the reception with me, but no one seemed to mind when I followed the wedding party back inside the church to take a couple of pictures. Surprisingly, the picture taking went fairly quickly, and we were soon en route to the reception.

PostWeddingRollsRoyceSandiePaul.JPG

The hall was very nice. It was a bit crowded at first, but we meandered our way to the patio after getting our table assignments, drinks, and some funky mashed potatoes from the "potato bar." Waiters meandered around handing out hors d'ovres, and we had a good time just relaxing with friends. While we were socializing, Russ said that the rest of the Wedding Party had a great time traveling in the limo.... especially the kids.

Soon, everyone arrived, and it was time to go upstairs for the actual reception. Little did we know, but Paul and Sandie had hired Philadelphia Funk to play all evening. It had been a long time since I'd heard a band that good... and he must have spared no expense. They were awesome! It was nice to be able to get to our table, and were happy that we got to sit with friends. Paul and Sandie had a table of thier own.... all lined with the BobbleHeads... so it was especially cute. Shortly after everyone was seated, the wedding party was announced, and Paul and Sandie had their first dance together as husband and wife. Russ even asked me to dance too!

After everyone was in and settled, Russ and I figured it was a good time to take a bathroom break. We headed downstairs, and just as we were coming back up, Noah was running down to get Russ, as it was time for his Best Man's speech! No time to get nervous! We laughed as I got to our table, and Russ took the microphone. In his hand he held an envelope that he gotten from work and covered with "Unclassified" stickers. He explained that he worked for the government in Southern Maryland, and somehow he'd acquired a transcript of Paul's proposal to Sandie. Unfortunately, however, some of the words were unreadable... so he needed help. At this point, he pulled a large sized version of Mad Libs from the envelope. Everyone laughed. He said that he read something about an exotic fruit... and then paused for the wedding guests to supply him with an answer. There was a slight uncomfortable pause, but then everyone caught on to the little game and suggestions came forth. Soon, Russ had enough words to complete his Mad Lib, and it turned out that Sandie was the Kiwi of Paul's eye, and he loved her more than the Dallas Cowboys... It was cute and a great ice breaker. Once the laughter subsided, Russ took a serious moment to share the story of how Sandie was devoted to Paul when he came to visit us in Maryland, and ended up having to go to the hospital. He paralled that story with a story of how Paul showed devoted friendship to Russ in the middle of a snowstorm. He said that if Paul's devotion to Sandie was anything like his devotion to his friends, then they'd be just fine. It was a great speech, and I think Paul and Sandie were pleased.... if not relieved.

ReceptionRussMadLibs.JPG

Now that Russ's pressure was off, we were all free to enjoy the evening. We enjoyed our courses of dinner, cocktails, dancing, sharing stories, Mickey Mouse ears, and all the things that come with a good party with friends. When things were going well, Russ, Noah, Don's son, DJ with his girlfriend, Noah and I all snuck out to trash Paul's Mercedes with saran wrap, silly string, window markers, shaving cream, and even Police tape.

I didn't even realize it was pushing midnight when the band announced the last dance of the evening for Sandie and Paul. Then we helped clean up (and even clean up his car a little once he realized and laughed at the trick we'd pulled). We all drove back to the hotel with smiles and laughter even though all of us were pretty tired. Paul and Sandie managed to leave a trail of shaving cream ahead of us. At our room, the guys changed out of their tuxes and handed them to Russ so he could fill his last Best Man duty of returning them the next day. Paul called us up to their room for more leftovers, but we were all pretty stuffed. We did come up so Don could do his traditional "Dance with Boa for Bride" deal since he didn't get to at the wedding itself. We all laughed, but it was short as we were all noticing the microwave clock saying 1:30am. It's tough to see such a good day end. Noah came back to our room with us. We said goodbye to everyone else, and crashed hard.

Paul and Sandie seemed pleased with the day, and excited to be going to Disneyland for their honeymoon.

Take a look at the slide show for more pictures.

Noah's phone alarm woke us up at 7:00am. None of us wanted to get up that early, but we forced ourselves too so we could go help Russ's mom, Marcie move the last few items from the storage area of her old apartment building to her new place. It was raining and miserable, but we the continental breakfast helped a little, and we checked out of the hotel. We hoped Paul and Sandie had the opportunity to sleep late.

We arrived at Marcie's apartment around 9:00. It's really a nice place. Much smaller than her old place, but much newer and with a lot more social opportunities for her as well. So, she came with us to her old place to weed out the remaining items to be moved. It didn't take long and the sun even came out for a few minutes as we loaded the van. We dropped off Noah at his house in Doylestown before returning to Marcie's apartment in New Hope.

We wished we could have stayed a little longer at Russ's mom's place, but after we got things moved, shuffled, and loaded, we really had to hit the road. Lindsay had been cooped up in our house for an entire rainy weekend, so we knew we needed to get back.

The trip home wasn't so bad but Russ and I were just SO tired. I took a couple of short naps along the way, but it barely put a dent in my exhaustion. Russ perservered behind the wheel. We were both so glad to pull in our driveway. We thanked Lindsay over and over, but knew she was probably more than ready to head home. She said the kids and dogs were good (except for Jaxson sneaking out the doggy door a couple of times), so we're glad things went well, and promised to return the babysitting favor soon.

We ordered a pizza for dinner, and managed to find enough energy to get things ready for work and daycare the next day. It was a fantastic weekend, but we were so glad to be home.

On a sad note, on Monday, Russ's mom called to tell us that Katherine, Russ's aunt, had passed away. It is very sad, and we know Marcie will deeply grieve her loss. Katherine had suffered a long long time, so we find peace in knowing that her pain has ended.
