A Fresh Start in my Golden Years

A Fresh Start in my Golden Years

I am enjoying my Golden Years not because I deserve them, but because of God’s Grace I can fulfill my destiny that He so graciously has given me.

I must apologize for not writing sooner. There are many new faces that have appeared on this network and I wish to welcome them.

Although I have weathered the storm of colon cancer which I have written about in my second book and now have a battle with a progressive skin cancer, nothing floored me more than to loose my best friend to cancer last March.

With God’s help I have laid down my pen sort to speak and have done nothing to publish my next book or write in my blogs. I have taken time off and have thrown myself into renovations on my home. It has given me a fresh outlook and I expect to write again this fall.

Human nature being what it is some of us have always been concerned about the years ahead. We would like to know what the future would bring. There is a fear of the future with the sickness or death of a loved one. We look in the mirror and see this face looking back at us, and say wow I am getting old. Getting old has never bothered me having limitations on physical fitness does. But with God’s Grace we overcome the obstacles that lie ahead.

When I retired I had little skills to work on a computer, I certainly was not an advanced user. I had never published a book or poem, and heavens, sending them off on my computer to a publisher I would cringe at the thought.

Being of modest means, I did not have the funds to hire someone to program my website, or to invest in the many programs that are on the internet that cover every range or topic that anyone can imagine. The qualities that I did have being retired, I had the time, I had the faith that I could do all things through Christ who strengthens me, I had an abundance of patience and humor up to a point, and I was persistent.

The message I am trying to send to you is you are never too old or to unlearned to start something new, and do not be afraid to make mistakes. You can not hurt your computer. You can certainly confuse it. Some might disagree on this point. You might loose everything and have to reprogram but think of it as starting a new page or a new book. I am having the time of my life and you can too.

I once wrote as I continue in my so-called Golden Years and plagued by one illness after another I am often reminded of the lyrics in the song One Day at a Time written by Jeff Barry and sung by Cristy Lane. What more could one ask for?

You Are Never to Old to Start Something New

You Are Never to Old to Start Something New

By

Douglas J. Archambault

Starting another year and already in my so-called Golden Years I can not think of what I would be doing today if I never took up writing as an author and poet using my computer. When I retired I had little skills to work on a computer, I certainly was not an advanced user. I had never published a book or poem, and heavens, sending them off on my computer to a publisher I would cringe at the thought.

I have two words to say to anyone who thinks they lack the skills or they just think they can not do it. DO IT! Hawthorne once stated, “Every individual has a place to fill in the world, and is important in some respect, whether he chooses to be so or not.”

I continue to make mistakes and, just the other day I lost the first page of my website, which is the index page to my whole site. Many of you probably know what an error 504: XML is. I was lucky I figured it out and was back on line the next day.

The message I am trying to send to you is you are never too old or to unlearned to start something new, and do not be afraid to make mistakes. You can not hurt your computer. I am having the time of my life and you can too.

I have many mentors out there that I want to thank. I just love getting their daily and weekly blogs. I have learned a lot through them. These mentors devote many hours of free time. Each one of them has come through the struggle to where they are today and now they spend some time helping others to achieve success.

Edward J. Phelps once said, “The man who makes no mistakes does not usually make anything.”

A New Year Message

As I close out another of my Golden Years and look forward to a bright, blessed, prosperous and healthy New Year. I wish everyone the best New Year that you can possibly imagine and hope all your crossroads will be blessed.

The Crossroads of my Life

By

Douglas J. Archambault

As I come to the crossroads of my life.

What is that low, gentle voice that seems

To reach to my very soul?

As it calls my name, do I stop and answer,

“What do you want?” or do I say,

“Be gone and don’t bother me?”

In my rushed walk through life

Have I stopped often enough

To smell the roses?

Have I rushed alone so quickly

That I have left no footprints behind

To remember me?

Have I taken the wide road and not

The narrow road so that the gate

Will be wide enough for me to enter?

As I reflect on the crossroads of my life

I hope I will always answer that low, gentle voice

Within me and say, “ Yes, Lord I am here.”

Rejoice and walk in the newness of life. Rejoice in the absolute fact that Jesus the Christ is the same, yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Rejoice that His kingdom will have no end. Rejoice that He still has Apostles, Prophets, Evangelist, Shepherds, and Teachers alive today. Rejoice in all His Saints and Angels. Rejoice in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Rejoice that in them we do truly live and have our being and that the gates of hell will not and can not prevail against us. Praise God!

Comment

This so-called law of retaliation, as this scripture shows, was meant to limit the punishment to fit the crime. We should be willing to take a slap in the face. This is not to say that we must stand by and see the innocent suffer lawless injury. And it does not mean that every Christian will necessarily suffer physical abuse as evidence of true salvation. While many Christians have sealed their faith with blood, many more have had to withstand the social temptations and pressures of the world in order to live effectively for Jesus.

Matthew 5:38-42

38"You have heard that it was said, `Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth. 39But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. 41If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

I Corinthians 13:13

13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Comment

If Christian experience were to be reduced to a few essential qualities they would be faith, hope and love. Faith and hope could one day vanish and love alone would abide. Often love is linked with charity. Passionate or fervent charity means love toward each other as a Christian brother or sister. It has nothing to do with giving money as a donation or as a courtesy. True love will cover over a multitude of sin. If a person has true love for others his or her shortcomings will no be readily obvious.

John 13:34

“A new command I give you: love

one another. As I have loved you, so you

must love one another. By this all men

will know that you are my disciples, if you

love one another.”

Comment

God’s love for us and our common sense response

of faith, devotion, and service to Him form the basis

of our love for each other.

Ephesians %: 8-14

8For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9(for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10and find out what pleases the Lord. 11Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, 14for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said:

"Wake up, O sleeper,

rise from the dead,

and Christ will shine on you."

Comments

I had this Indian reading cross my desk in an email this week and I can’t think of any better comment to make then this:

>
> Two Wolves
>
>
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between two "wolves" inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility,

kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grand son thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather:
"Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied,
"The one you feed."

Matthew 25: 34-40

34"Then the King will say to those on his right, `Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

37"Then the righteous will answer him, `Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

40"The King will reply, `I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

Comment

I often think anyone in the medical profession is blessed for doing God’s work, for helping His people. Whether it is a smile, a kind word, taking vitals, taking blood, a back rub, or cleaning a room. When they do it for the least of my brethren, they do it for me and that is Scripture. Praise God!

Matthew 6:25-34

25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, `What shall we eat?' or `What shall we drink?' or `What shall we wear?' 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

We have always been concerned about the years ahead. We would like to know what the future would bring. There is a fear of the future with the sickness or death of a loved one. We look in the mirror and see this face looking back at us, and say wow I am getting old. I am reminded in my later years of an incident when I was a store detective.

I was reviewing videotapes because of a problem in one of the cash offices. I had set a secret camera in the overhead. While I was reviewing these tapes, I noticed an older balding man enter and talk to other employees. I said to myself “Who the heck is this. He should not been in here.” Than the man moved and I saw that it was me. I had a good laugh.
