(1) Carcinoid tumor stained with MIB-1 (also
called Ki-67)
Carcinoid tumor of the lung stained for MIB1
(Ki-67). Click on small images to view them in full size. Crosses identify individual cell nuclei: red crosses label negative
cells, green crosses denote positive cells.
(2) Basaloid carcinoma stained with p63 (almost
all tumor cells are positive)
Upper row shows the four original immunohistochemical images, while the lower row shows the respective images with
colored red and green markers indicating the different immunoreactivity of cells identified.

The purpose of automatic cell counting in this project lies
in assessing the number of differentiated adipocytes from the embryonic stem (ES) cells and comparing the level of cell differentiation
among different strains of the ES cells or ES cells treated differently. Thus, the cells in this experiment are ES cells that differentiated
into adipocytes to a different degree. Cells were fixed in 4% paraformaldehyde
in phosphate buffered saline and stained with 0.5% Oil-Red-O for 30 min. Images were captured using a Nikon Eclipse TE2000-S
microscope. All images were taken at 20x magnification. The cells look different in color and size because of their different
stages of maturation and growth.
