... Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening...
The National Weather Service in Burlington
continues the Wind Advisory for portions of northern New York and western Vermont... until 8 PM EDT this evening.
Strong
south winds of 25 to 35 mph... with gusts to 55 mph... are expected Thursday with peak winds anticipated around midday.
These strong winds will gradually diminish toward this evening.
Special attention should be paid to areas where
the ground is still saturated from recent heavy rain... as trees may be susceptible to falling.
Precautionary/preparedness
actions... a Wind Advisory means that wind gusts in excess of 45 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving
difficult... especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. Secure any loose objects around your property
that may be blown or damaged by wind.

At Rulf's Orchard in Peru they hire about 50 people each summer to do things like water plants and pick fruit.
This year the number of people applying has been through the roof.
"This year for the first time I've never seen such a diverse pool, from high school kids to men and women with a college
degree looking for a job," said Linda Facteau of Rulf's Orchard.
The Plattsburgh Recreation Department is also hiring summer help for things like lifeguarding.
The department manager, Steve Peters, said they haven't had very many non-traditional candidates yet.
They are hiring over the next two weeks.
Nearly 9,000 acres of active farmland will be preserved with the help of $23.1 million in grants
awarded by the state Agricultural and Farmland Protection Program.
The program helps local governments buy development rights on farmland so that it is permanently
protected. The latest round of grants will help preserve 27 farms in 16 counties statewide.
Agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker said the primary purpose of the program is to protect farmland,
but it also helps safeguard local food production and provides an economic stimulus to rural communities.
New York has 7.6 million acres of farmland with 34,000 farms.
Since 1996, the state has awarded more than $173.3 million to protect nearly 73,000 acres on 303
farms.
