Welcome to the web site of the Diocese
of Virginia Committee on Aging!
Believing that aging is a natural human process which
God has ordained as a time for continuing spiritual growth, and not a need or problem which should be healed or cured,
the Committee on Aging of the Diocese of Virginia is dedicated to fostering ways to encourage older adults to live out their
lives with purpose in the knowledge that all God's children--whatever their age--are sustained by God's grace.
The Committee
on Aging is devoted to fostering ways to encourage older adults to live out their lives with purpose, support those who
care for elders, and inform churches of ways to assist in these goals.
Accordingly,
we conduct or sponsor workshops, recognize exemplar programs and activities, celebrate longevity, affirm the committments
in long-term marriages, and provide the opportunity for spiritual renewal and physical refreshment. For a summary of our activities
of the past year, see our report to Diocesan Council. In summary these include:
Annual Celebration of Longevity honoring those over the age of 90
Renewal of marriage vows for couples married 50 years or more
Annual Fall Camp for seniors at Shrine Mont
A workshop on aging issues
Articles in the diocesan paper
The Biggar-Power Award
Prepare materials for use by congregations during Older American’s Month
Please
