WOMEN FOR GREATER PHILADELPHIA~
Women
For Greater Philadelphia, an organization of volunteers was incorporated
in 1973, under the name "Women For The Bicentennial" as a non-profit service organization. Its purpose at that time
was to cooperate with the City in celebrating the nation's 200th anniversary in 1976.
The first project for "Women For The
Bicentennial" was the renovation and restoration of the handsome, but neglected, Laurel Hill Mansion, under an agreement with
the Fairmount Park Commission. The mansion opened for the first time in 1976, and has been open to the public ever since.
The organization is responsible for the interior restoration of the mansion and for staffing and hostesssing.
At the close of 1976 the name of our
organization was changed to Women For Greater Philadelphia.
Our Mission~
The goal of Women For Greater Philadelphia
continues to be to improve the cultural image of the Women For Greater Philadelphia and the maintenance and preservation of
Laurel Hill Historic Mansion.
