Class of 2009
Reach for the
Stars
Amanda Callagy was just
like any other kid. She went to school, was involved in sports, cheerleading, hung out with her friends and worked hard to
get good grades in school.
All of that changed
when a progressive illness took away her ability to walk, write, care for herself, be a normal teenager. From age to 12 until
she lost her battle at age 16, Amanda tried to live her life to the fullest. She got up every day, and no matter how
hard life got, she faced each day with perseverance. Amanda didn't know any other way. To persevere was the only option.
After being home-bound
for almost one year, Amanda gave up her comfort and care at home to return to school. In a wheelchair and needing complete
assistance, she faced each obstacle head on and did all that she could to remain an active part of SBHS. The connection with
friends, the outside world and normalcy itself, something she had before and that we often take for granted, is what Amanda
so desperately wanted back.
Amanda knew that she
may not have forever to reach her dreams, but she continued to plan for the future and work towards her goal to be an interior
designer. Amanda's journey was cut short. She will not have those opportunities to fulfill her dreams. While no
one really knows what the future holds, we encourage each of you to face each day with perseverance, feel proud of the choices
that you make, and live your life to the fullest...in Amanda's memory.
When you look
up in the sky at night~
And you see a
star shining bright~
Think of Amanda
and reach for the stars!
Congratulations and Best
of Luck Class of 2009.
