Note: Corrections are made in printings after the error is discovered, so some corrections on this list may already have been incorporated in the latest printings.

·        page 50: displayed text at bottom of page, third quintet should read

·        page 52, lines three and four should read “… and eight of those 20 were correct. (A score of 8 out of 20 is 40 percent, …”

·        page 70: paragraph following heading “Overview of Rijndael.”  The sentence near the end of the paragraph should read “There are 10, 12, or 14 cycles …”

·        page 70: bullet beginning “Shift row.”  The last sentence should read “This is a straight diffusion operation.”

·        page 74: last paragraph.  The first sentence should read “We have noted that a major problem with symmetric encryption is …”

·        page 78: figure 2-11, the labels on the keys should read “S’s Public Key” (on the top, right key) and “R’s Private Key” (on the bottom, left key).

·        page 232: paragraph following heading “Military Security Policy.”  The sentence near the bottom of the paragraph should read “For example, restricted information is more sensitive than unclassified but less sensitive than confidential.”

·        page 234, figure 5-3, the third line should end in the third of the five ovals, that is, in the intersection of the third (confidential) rings of both bullseye figures.

·        page 422: paragraph just above heading “JavaScript.”  The sentence should read “The two main kinds of active code are Java code and ActiveX controls.”  And the heading should read “Java Code.”

·        page 642: paragraph following heading “Confusion and Diffusion.”  The first sentence should read “Recall from Chapter 2 that confusion is the act of creating ciphertext so that …”

·        page 661: second paragraph following heading “Structure of the AES.”  The second sentence should read “For key length 128, 10 rounds are used; for 192, 12; and for 256, 14.”

·        page 736 (index): last entry under “J.”  The reference should read “Java, 422.”
