Indian Tribes of Pennsylvania
Shackamaxon, the main village of the Delaware Indians. The Delaware River at a place that is now a part of the city Philadelphia.
The head chief of all the Delaware belonged to the Turkey Clan. The Delaware Indians lived in villages in the forest.
Each family owed a field for a garden. If a Turtle Clan man married the Turkey Clan women, their children would belong to
the Turkey Clan.
The Nanticoke Indian lived in central Pennsylvania. The Nanticoke were known as people of the tide water. Corn was the
most famous foods to the Nanticoke Indians. One of the other foods was pone, that is bread.
The Shawnee were tall and strong. Their faces had coarse features with high cheekbones. Shawnee means "Southerners".
