Indian Games for Indian Boys
by Ernie Haiko

Indians were devised to wise chiefs. Devolved the skill of there qualities and necessary first rate stalker, hunter, and warrior. Wise chiefs of all the American tribes realized that a boy who's going to earn any of these ranks should be well trained, while young, in the qualities essential to the chase and warpath. Prime necessities were keen and quick ears, able to interpret the many and often mysterious woodland noises of the dusk and day. A keen sense of smell, combined with the ability to distinguish between the many deceptive smells peculiar to field and forest, was still another must for the warrior to be. Silent feet in the forest on the war trail were necessary.

Wars
by Ernie Haiko

The Iroquois were a fighting tribe that worked together and frequently raided rival tribes. The Huron Erie and Susquehannock tribes were among the Iroquois raids. Iroquois boys developed military at a young age by practicing with bows, arrows, spears and clubs. As teenagers, they participated in raids against hostile Indians or White Settlers. Those who made it through were often incorporated into the village; those that didn't were sometimes tortured to death.
