Elephant Breaks Peanut Eating Record

By: Ali Gator Zoo Critic

On Friday, December 8th at the Denver Zoo in Denver, Colorado, a world record was broken by Peanut the elephant who ate 2,623,982,149 peanuts. The most peanuts an elephant ever ate were 1,776,342,894 in 1997. It took him two weeks to do this and he gained 400 pounds from eating all those peanuts.

“I was amazed that a 2 year old elephant could eat that many peanuts,” said Linda (a friend of Peanut).   Another friend tried to do it, but she could only eat 37,567 peanuts.

A crowd of 5,000 animals came to meet Peanut, on December 15th , when Peanut made it into the Guinness Book of World Records. “I didn’t think I could eat all those peanuts,” said Peanut.

“We were all amazed!” said the other elephants.

Peanut was awarded a check for 1,000,000,000 peanuts. “I don’t want the peanuts,” said Peanut, “so I decided to donate them to the zoo.”

The zoo’s vet said, “Peanut should not eat anymore peanuts until next year.”

The Zoo is going to have a celebration for the public on Saturday, December 16th at the zoo to honor Peanut’s achievement.

PENGUINS IN DANGER IN ANTARCTICA

By Kristine O’Penguin

Staff Writer

Antarctica- There is trouble brewing in Antarctica this year. The penguins are in danger because the ice is melting. In the near future, the penguins of Antarctica will have no place to live. Their ice homes are slowly beginning to melt. Global warming is at the root of the melting problem.

Penelope Penguin, age 72, is the longest living penguin in Antarctica. Penelope expressed her concern about the future of the penguin population. She has 34 grandchildren who depend on the ice for their habitat. The fish that the penguins eat live under the ice. So, without ice, the penguins will have no home and no food.

In an effort to save her family, Penelope is teaming up with Jack Frost. Mr. Frost is busy at this time of year, but is taking time out to help. Jack has agreed to put a deep freeze on Antarctica just in time for the Christmas Season!

The penguins are so happy they will be home for Christmas!

BARN FIRE IN SLOTHWORTH!

By Dede Dog

Action News Reporter

Slothworth PA-  A barn caught on fire at two AM this morning. It took two hours for the firefighters to calm the flames. “What caused the fire?” firefighters ask.   Investigators say it was an over-heated blanket warmer.

The family of four, two adults and two children were not home at the time. It was the next-door neighbor that called the police.  Their human pet Duloris saw the fire and yelled until her owner heard her.

The police asked the neighbor what she saw and she said, “I was about half-way asleep, when all of a sudden, Duloris started yelling in human language. I went outside to give her a scolding for yelling. Then I saw the fire and I started to panic. Then I remembered what I read about fires. So I quickly called the fire department.”

Fox Wins Big Money!!!

By:       Emilie Elephant

4-2 Scoop Staff Writer

West Brandywine- A fox named Zac recently returned from a trip around the world in 80 days.  Zac’s friend, Neil Mouse an elementary school principal, bet him $20,000 that he could not make the trip.  Zac, an adventurous fox, accepted the bet.  Zac’s friend and butler, Jeff the Hawk, joined him on the journey.

The pair first boarded a ship to Rome, Italy.  After arriving in Italy, they went to Vatican City, where they saw Pope Benedict XVI elected.  After receiving the Pope’s blessing, Zac and Jeff had a great pizza with Fabio Cannavaro, a famous Italian soccer player.

After all the excitement, Zac and Jeff decided to go to India.  The first stop was New Delhi, where they rode an elephant to Calcutta.  There they met Mother Theresa, (and) revived another blessing, and donated money to the poor.

Next, Zac and Jeff went to Derby, Western Australia.  They took a camel ride across the Outback to Sydney with their kangaroo friend, Mick.  While Zac met the Wiggles, Jeff surfed over the Great Barrier Reef with his giant sea turtle friend, Crush.  After a relaxing stay, the two flew to Kangaroo Town in Brazil, South America.

While in Kangaroo Town, Zac and Jeff learned how to speak Portuguese. Then they explored the Amazon Rain Forest.  While they were in the rainforest, Jeff got lost and it wasn’t until two hours later that their guide Sandi Snail finally found him.  Finally, the pair saw a soccer match between the Brazilian (Team) and the Italian National Teams, starring their friend Fabio!

On day 80 of their trip, Zac and Jeff left Brazil, and flew to Pennsylvania. Thinking they were late, they rushed to the new PJPII School in West Brandywine where Neil is the principal.  Neil met them there with the good news: Zac and Jeff were on time, (and) had won the bet and $20,000!  Zac and Jeff were both shocked and excited by the news.

Zac turned to Jeff and said,”That was a fun trip, let’s take our winnings and go again!”  Jeff fainted and woke up an hour later on the plane going around the world with Zac again.
