Question:  What type of handgun do you recommend?

Get the biggest Caliber of gun you can control and have good accuracy with. Your priorities should include : Reliability, Fit for you hand, Controllability, and Accuracy.  For revolvers; Colt, Smith & Wesson, and Ruger, are extremely good.   For semi-autos; Glock, SIG, Springfield, and Beretta are highly recommended.

Question:  What type of gun do you use and train with?

My favorite full size is the Glock 34 in 9MM.  Mid-size is the Glock 23C (40 Cal). I am also partial to the SIG 220 (45 Cal) and the Glock Model-38  45GAP.  My wife enjoys the SIG 229 DAK (9mm), Beretta 92 (9mm), and Smith Model 60 (357).

Question:  What type of ammo should I use for self defense?

For 9MM many people use the CorBon 115 JHP +P, for .38 Special the Winchester 130 +P SXT or Speer 135 +P Gold Dot, for .40 S&W I recommend the Remington 165 Golden Saber, for .357 SIG the Remington Golden Saber Bonded, and for .45 the Federal 185 Hydra-Shok.  You need to make sure that whatever ammo you choose it is reliable with your weapon (feeding),  delivers good accuracy, and has low muzzle flash in your specific firearm.

Question:  Will I be the only woman in the class?

No. Female students account for 40% to 60% of each class.

Question:  Do you provide semi-automatics for the Basic Handgun Class?

Yes, for revolvers we use Smith & Wesson Model 10 (38spl) Police revolvers. Semi-automatics are Sig 229, 226, Beretta 92SF, and Glock. After you have completed the basic class, we will work with you to find the "perfect" gun that fits your particular need.

BTW--We don't sell guns so there is nothing in it for us to help you find the right gun except we care about our students.

Question:  If the weather gets bad do you still train?

There will be no extra charge for rain. We will not cancel a course for any reason.

Question:  What should I wear to class and the range?

Shirts should be collared or tight enough around the neck that hot brass won't go down. You may be standing most of the day so shoes should be comfortable.  Most classes involve some kneeling, bring knee pads if you like.

Question:  What is a Key Point for In Home Personal Protection?

A gun in the hand is more comforting than a Cop on the phone.

Question:  What should I bring the first day?

Bring a notebook, a pen and your handgun, if you wish and if you have one. No live ammo is allowed in the classroom, and please make sure you transport your gun according to state law (locked up with ammo in a separate compartment. The best way to do this is put the gun in the trunk, in a locking box, and the ammo in your glove box).
