Venice here we come!!!  This morning we were up at 6:30am - pack, shower, eat, and on the bus by 8:15am.  We stopped at our usual times (every 2 hours) and had lunch in a town call Egna or New Market, Italy for lunch and a stroll through the old town.

In Veneto we boarded a trechetto that took us to the Accademia stop where we were to get off for our hotel.  The hotel was located just a few steps away.  We unpacked and regrouped around 6:30pm for our walking tour.

Ben is giving us an overview of Venice before

heading to St. Mark's.

The bell tower in St. Marks Square

with the Basicilla to the left. Beautiful!!!

I was so excited to be here.

I love Venice.

After our group dinner, Ben had arranged for 5 or 6 gondolas to take us on a canal cruise.  One of the gondolas carried a musician and a singer "oh so lo mi oh..."; the champagne, a beautiful evening, friends, music, and Venice - how much more perfect could life get!!!

Juan -our bus driver and the single ladies on the
100_0772.jpg
trip had him right where they wanted him - or was it the other way around!!!

Our flotilla of gondolas included a singer

and musician - a wonderful memory.

Today we met our beautiful tour guide who led us through the streets of Venice pointing out things we would never see on our own.  Our tour ended at St. Marks where we were free to go about the Basicilla on our own.

She was so funny, every time we laughed she

would say "you think I'm joking?"

The Basicilla was beautiful - we were in the tour

group line so we got right in!!!

Some of us opted for the glass factory tour just

off the square, a quick way to get your glass blowing experience in

The rest of the day was free time.  We wandered around - took a siesta - wandered back - chose our own restaurant for dinner - muddled through the language - and spent the evening in St. Mark's Square - I LOVE VENICE!!!

We had lunch just about 100 feet from where this

picture was taken of the Rialto Bridge. A beautiful sunny day in Venice.

Doges Palace - we went later in the day around
100_0811.jpg
4:30pm, there were no lines and no crowds!!

The Campinelli - Bell Tower

It's worth the wait to go to the top - spectacular views!!!

A view of the domes of the Basicilla from the top

of the Bell Tower. The views are breathtaking!!!

Stay out at night in Venice and enjoy the

entertainment in the square. The memories far out-weight the amount on the bill...

You gotta go!!!  Check out www.ricksteves.com and go explore.  Don't just dream, make it a reality.
