"In November I had a chance to catch the David Jellema Group in action
performing one such concert for a gathering of public law advocates in the District. Aside from Dave, the band consisted of
the terrific Larry Wright on clarinet and alto, the phenomenal bassist Brad Hittle and DC-area standby Dave Littlefield doubling
on piano and banjo. Although it was just a quartet, the sound was enormous, and the tunes were rendered fast and furious!
Dave and his fellow musicians simply brought down the house with a tremendous 90-minute concert. What a sheer pleasure it
was to listen to these four professional Jazzmen! Jellema and Wright traded chorus after chorus on cornet and clarinet, punctuated
often by the creative and soulful solos of bassist Hittle (who is another transplant to the DC area from the Midwest by way
of New Orleans). As the glue that held them together, Dave Littlefield worked the songs over thoroughly on the keyboard and
added considerable flourish with his occasional banjo solos." -- The Potomac River Jazz

Thanks to “Sacred Jazz” Musicians from David Jellema
Cornetist David Jellema recently asked local jazz musicians to contribute their musical talent to a project he
launched as musical artist-in residence at the Henry Luce III Center for the Arts and Religion, Wesley Theological Seminary.
His aim was to share the sounds of traditional jazz with the seminary and with the broader religious communities in the DC
area. At the end of his residency he offers this thank you:
I would like to thank all of the musicians and other members of the readership who have responded
to my article and blurbs about sacred jazz... ...Among the musicians who participated were Gary
Gregg, Brad Hittle, Howard Kadison, Dave Littlefield, Pete Ostle, Doug Powell, Rick
Rowe, David Sager, and Larry Wright...My interest in jazz in sacred settings is heightened, so I will continue
to watch for and create opportunities in the future to further this interest...Thank you again to all interested. Please keep
in touch.
