Now I glue the endpapers and attach the cover. It is now ready for the press. The purpose of the press is to form the dimple in the hinge using the press in combination with book boards.

At this stage crash needs to be applied. Crash is about the consistancy of cheese cloth. It very strong yet flexible and will bond the cover to the end papers to form the hinge. Think of it like rebar in concrete. It will make the joint stronger than the surrounding paper.
