"WASHINGTON'S AX" Short Film project announced:

Campanile Media© and Writer/Director John Strawbridge are producing a short film excerpt for the indie feature Washington’s Ax.

Washington’s Ax is a character-driven drama which relies heavily on compelling characters and strong performances. The scenes chosen for the short should provide cast members with significant challenge and opportunity for a nuanced performance.

Actors for the following roles are needed:

NOAH:  Male, college freshman – A young man struggling to establish an identity for himself and come to grips with the discovery of a very deeply buried secret about his parents.

NOAH’S DAD:  Male, 45-55 years – A loving father and family man who has been deeply affected by the death of his young daughter years before. His rational façade hides a damaged soul.

MARIANNE:  Noah’s mom, 45-55 years – Living in a state of comfortable denial since her daughter’s death, she survives every day in a precarious balance between duty to her family and private escape.

TYLER:  Male, 18-22 - Noah’s best friend, a stoner and the opposite of Noah; self confident and easy going.

CATIE:  Female, 18-22 – A “nice girl”, likeable, intelligent and self-possessed, but a little naive.

BECCA:  Female, 18-22 – Forthright and assured, speaks her mind with a caustic wit. Maybe looks a little punk or arty.

BARRY:  Male, 18-22 – Straight-arrow and unadventurous, he is smart enough to know that the world will kick his ass unless he fits in.

FLYNN:  Female, 18-22 – A bit of an enigma, seems to be in on a universal joke that you’re not getting.

SHAYLA BARNES:  Female, 25-35, African American – Local TV field reporter; smart, competent and attractive …with just enough muss to be taken seriously.

EXTRAS:  Various college students / club-goers.

The feature production is partially funded at this time, and additional financial partners are needed to achieve the full budget. No funds have been released to the producers at this time, and so the producers are seeking voluntary participation. Footage will also be made available to participants for their acting reels.

Production on the short will begin as soon as cast and locations can be lined up. Five shooting days are expected, though only NOAH will work more than two days. Production on the full feature could begin this fall, pending funding.

This short film presentation is being produced under a SAG Short Film Agreement with the always cooperative support of the Screen Actors Guild executives and members. As such, casting will be open both Guild and Non-Guild performers. Participation in the Demo Reel project in no way guarantees final casting.

Actors interested in participating should please see SUBMISSION POLICIES for specific info about submitting Headshot & Résumé.
