A Brief Biography...

JOHN STRAWBRIDGE is a Writer/Director living in Baltimore.

 

He is the Creative Director of Campanile Media, which provides writing, directing, education, private coaching and consulting services. Current and recent projects include; custom monologues and coaching for actors, consulting Direction for local theatre, editing a childrens’ book project, consulting work on two independent features in development, and  he is part of a business providing training for corporate communications; GenderStrategy, Inc.

 

As a Director, John just finished CONVERGENCE for Zero Point Productions, is 2nd Unit Director for ONE-EYED HORSE, and is in development on an independent feature.

 

As an associate Casting Director, he worked on casting the HBO’s, The Wire, as well as the East Coast casting for the films SYRIANA, WEDDING CRASHERS, and SUPERMAN RETURNS.

 

For five seasons, he was Associate Casting Director on NBC's Homicide: Life on the Street, which received 3 Emmy nominations and one Emmy Award for casting.

 

Other films include RED DRAGON, TUCK EVERLASTING, WASHINGTON SQUARE, ABSOLUTE POWER, ENEMY OF THE STATE and HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS. Other television includes HBO's Something the Lord Made (which received both an Emmy Nomination and an Artios Award for casting), HBO's Shot in the Heart, The WB's Young Americans, NBC's Joey, and pilots for HBO, ABC, NBC, Fox and Disney.

 

He has worked with a broad range of directors including Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, Brett Ratner, Martin Campbell, Peter Medak, Agnieszka Holland, Clint Eastwood, Jodie Foster, Stephan Gaghan and Betty Thomas.

 

As one of the founding directors of Actors Company Theatre, John has directed projects including "Jake's Women", "Steel Magnolias", "Love Letters", "On Golden Pond", Later Life”, “War of the Worlds” and "Harvey".

 

John also directed the inaugural production of the Actors’ Center play reading series, “Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean”, in addition to projects for Pasadena Theatre Company ("I Hate Hamlet", "California Suite") and for The Little Theatre of Alexandria ("Hot l Baltimore", "The Odd Couple"), for which he was twice nominated for Best Director.

 

He is the Artistic Director of The Education and Entertainment Foundation 501(c)(3), providing Creative consulting, Writing, and Design work.

 

As a Technical Director and Lighting Designer, he has provided lighting & scenery design, and technical direction for A.C.T.(Balt.), P.T.C., The Barnstormers, The Municipal Opera Company of Baltimore, Dance Express, Teatro de la Luna, Ashling Theater Center, and others.

 

He is an educator, active in classes and seminars for professional actors. He is co-instructor of the  on-going “Working Actor” series of classes for the Actors Company Theatre, which include workshops in The Business, Audition Technique, On Camera Technique, Scene Study, and Acting Skills. He also regularly conducts workshops for the SAG Conservatory series, The Actors’ Center, The Modeling Institute, and others. He is a frequent panelist for discussion workshops, including recent events for WIFV/Md, ITVA, UMBC, TSU and The Actors Center’s DC Actors Expo.

 

At the college level, he has been an adjunct Faculty member at CCC and Villa Julie College.

In the past, John worked with the MD State Film Commission.

 

John is a recipient of the Actors' Center 2001 Theatre Distinction Award.
